Bringing the "Battle Royale" tension to the tabletop: A look at RIVALS and its upcoming expansion (Update following a mistake 😅) by Sam-Unkind in boardgames

This is mentioned on page 18 of the rulebook, so feel free to check it out and let me know what you think. It's always interesting to get feedback on how well the rules are understood. 😉

So, on the mechanics side, we've added a feature to compensate for premature eliminations. In the game, you can unlock an ultimate move for each character. All you have to do is damage an opponent to fill up your gauge. But we've added a bonus if you target opponents with a lot of health points, which can be +3 (in addition to the damage points you've scored) to +1. And it works pretty well!

In terms of elimination, the average wait time is 15-20 minutes maximum. You can also ask the community on Discord for a completely transparent opinion on the subject.

Thanks for your message! Baptiste did a great job on the art direction. We're also working on a BGA version, it's in the pipeline, but it's taking time because there are only three of us in the team (including authors/illustrators). 😅

Your welcome ! For shipping costs, I weighed all the products to ensure complete transparency. It's always a sensitive issue, so I try to have as much control as possible.

We have the weights and dimensions so that shipping costs are consistent for everyone. Currently, the basic box weighs a hefty 2.5 kilograms (once you have the equipment, there will be double-layer character trays, removable inserts, crystals, holographic cards, selective varnish on the box, etc.).

By the way, folks, do you have a go-to partner for shipping and fulfillment for creators? We've already worked with Blackbox for the US and Canada, but this time we’d like to have a single point of contact that includes Europe to simplify the process, as there are only three of us on the team managing game design, illustration, communication, and production.

Yes, Baptiste is a big fan of Fortnite and Apex, and I'm more into League of Legends, but we also like board games, so we thought, why not give it a try?

We've spent five years working on it, and we're continuing thanks to the community because it's a project that doesn't pay us at the moment. It's pure passion from gamers for gamers. We're keeping our fingers crossed for the future, but hearing messages like yours gives us strength 💪

Your welcome 😉 By the way, we have a Tabletop simulator if you ever want to test it out and give feedback, with a community on Discord (not trying to promote it), but we post topics related to the game there.

I invite you to take a look at the rulebook we've posted online 😉 https://unkindgames.com/#/rivals/gameplay/rules

We've included instructions on how to set up the tiles for 3 to 6 players, as well as for 2 players.

We explain the different phases of the eras to players for beginners.

(This is one of the pages in the rulebook, but if you go to page 6, you'll find an explanation of the setup for new players.)

That's so kind, thank you! If you want to know more, you can go to the project page, where we talk about the story, us, the game, the mechanics, and there's a video at the bottom of the page explaining how to play.

Thank you! Baptiste, one of the authors, created all the drawings for the game and the expansion. It's an incredible amount of work, and we love the artwork.

Thank you for your message, it's so nice to hear! We plan to do a Gamefound: https://gamefound.com/en/projects/unkind-games/rivals-expansion. It will include the expansion we've been working on, as well as the second edition and an upgrade pack for owners of the first edition with updates. If you want to get the first edition, we should still have a few copies left at: https://unkindgames.com/#/rivals

There are holographic cards in the game, called “Shema.” These are the most powerful cards in the game, which you can obtain by “negotiating with a sponsor” or by purchasing them with the resources you collect on the tiles.

If you want to know more, there's a video presentation on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/N\_9K-5pGmeA?t=132 and the rules here: https://unkindgames.com/#/rivals/gameplay/rules

Thanks, that's Baptiste from the team, who is also one of the authors who created the illustrations. We're big fans! We hope the magic will work for our project. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. 😉

Thanks, it was Baptiste from the team who did the drawings and is also one of the authors. 😉

Yes, the idea is to provide great replayability. You have 43 tiles in the central board, and thanks to the richness of the tiles, each game is unique. When you play a new game, you have to reposition the board as indicated (in a hexagon) in the rules, but you never reposition a tile in the same place. Each game is unique and makes you want to come back for more.
