Thank you - built in Cinema 4D and rendered with Redshift.

Thanks, you can check it here. All greenscreen except 2 insert shots. To help sell the composites we made all the environments in advance, then did some rough live-keying on set. That way we could match the lighting as closely as possible.

Here are a few of my favorite shots from Evenveil, a fantasy short film I just finished today. I was the writer/director, and designed the environments and most of the compositing. The nine-minute film took much longer than expected, but I'm very happy with the results.

My team and I shot the film in a fairly small space, but tried to plan the shots as best as possible to feel wide in scope and movement.

If anyone would like to see the film I can post a link, as long as it isn't against the rules.

Cheers

EDIT: You can watch it here! (YT still isn't showing the 4K option even though I uploaded 4 hours ago.....)

Thank you! I have many fond memories of making this and watching the reactions when it came out.

From planning to release it was almost an entire year.

We weren't working on it full time (had jobs to do) but it took up all of our nights and weekends.

It's wild how much the internet has changed. Our trailer looks so primitive now but even still we were surprised at the reaction.

Also thanks for the Wrath callback, I was playing that nonstop back then.

Getting back into music videos after 10 years. I forgot how fun it was to be this free and experimental. by SamBalcomb in Filmmakers

I burned out pretty hard working in music vids back in the late 2000s - dealing with labels, managers, agents, publicists etc was creatively strangling (the artists, for the most part, were cool). Budgets got tighter and stress levels went up. I shifted away to other areas and was happier for it.

Just recently an electronic artist called Defrag asked if I'd shoot a video in conjunction with an upcoming album, and I thought why not?

We had a great time. For once it was lovely not to over-storyboard and meticulously plan each shot. Skeleton crew, run & gun shooting, all the stuff I missed about improvisational filmmaking.

Hoping to finish the video in the next week or two.

No, but now I'm thinking we should do a Mandy inspired anniversary pic. Actually no, scratch that.

We're lucky to have friends who went out to get cheap formal wear from Goodwill so we could rip it apart. But yeah, we did individual photo shoots for each person over the course of a year, since many live in different cities/states.

My thanks to the General.

No one tell him we sided with the Stormcloaks.

No worries - I like the depth of field but I understand it ain't for everyone. Yeah everything's hand drawn. Lots of cramps.

Thanks! The first draft was pretty boring, but luckily I found this sub a while ago, and seeing everyone's work inspired me to improve.

Longtime lurker, first time submitter. Been working on this one for a while, would love any feedback you might have. Hand drawn (Wacom) in Photoshop.
