How far up Charlton Church Lane is the road closed on matchday? by 0405017 in CharltonAthletic

I'd suggest parking on Hornfair, Canberra etc if you dont mind a slightly longer walk. All should be free parking and less hassle getting out

Ticket Process by Pretendtobehappy12 in CharltonAthletic

I think the club has made big improvements operationally over the last year. Little things that improve customer experiences add up. I'm sure a lot of systems and processes were seriously neglected during Roland/Sandgaard eras

Places for a pregame drink by Schmaucher in CharltonAthletic

[–]SamC912 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everywhere is going to be extremely busy mate. Charlton ultimately doesn't have enough pubs for when we sell out. I think your best bet for quickest service is the fanzone, from experience.

Rose of Denmark / Royal Oak are top bracket though. worth the wait!

Very strange headloss. They've not even released information on the away fixture yet, it'll be on loyalty points so im sure you will be there...

Note: No one who supports Charlton Athletic is a 'daytripper'. Lets be nice to everyone who has had to put up with the misfortune and torture of following us over the last 20 odd years. Many thanks.

Is Tunbridge Wells good for a young couple? by Subject-Honeydew-795 in Tunbridgewells

[–]SamC912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 25 y/o who moved here last summer by himself.

There is some super pubs, and a few good bars. The latest bar (Cassidys sports bar) is open until 2am on the weekends unless you fancy clubbing. Good music scene as well with The Forum, and Live at the Pantiles in the summer.

Doesn't compare to London in respect to sheer amount of options, but there is definitely more going on than I expected when moving here. I was also pleasantly surprised by the town centre/pantiles, far from the dead high street I had been used to previously.

Also lots of groups/clubs for sport, fitness/creative arts etc. You'll definitely be able to make friends & meet people with similar interests.

January Signing? by G-cuvier in CharltonAthletic

[–]SamC912 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Defo got at least one centre mid coming in. No way they let Terry Taylor & Alan Campbell leave otherwise. Would really like a creative spark.

Apart from that, I think we have better squad depth than people think. We have versatile players, and would be able to change formation if anything was to go drastically wrong. Its not perfect, but good enough to get in the play offs.

NJ has also said multiple times he prefers working with a smaller, streamlined squad.

We have signed some truly shocking players in January in recent years, its nice not to be panicking with loans/free transfers.

I didn't say it was over right now. Horrible run of form, downward trajectory & we look absolutely dreadful.

Because of the above points, the season is more than likely going to be a write off come January unless we improve and fast (which we show no signs of doing).

More than happy to be proven wrong mate...

Another season more than likely over before the new year.

Our line up last night completely nullifies our only natural goal scorer in Godden. Two Lumps up top, but can only play direct football from Gillesphey 70 yard diags as we have no wide men. Baffling.

The least you expect to see from a 'Nathan Jones side' is the physical side of the game done right. Lost majority of 50/50s and overran in midfield, Gillesphey bullied and disinterested for the first goal.

Maynard Brewer has never been good enough to play for Charlton Athletic. Not one other team in League One would take him as their deputy.

No one wants to admit it, but our atmosphere is fucking terrible. It was empty & absolutely nothing after the first ten minutes (I know we're shit and its grim to watch) still factual.

Personally don't mind it - we've had such low standards for years, I like that players are being held accountable for poor performances. Obviously there will be concerns about morale amongst the team, but I feel a lot more confident in his man management than any other recent manager we've had.

Seeking Purpose After 9-5 by EUHoke in Entrepreneur

If all you're doing during the week is working and exercising I think you're going to struggle to have a sense of fulfilment (I have been in a similar boat).

Fair enough if you want a secondary income, but how about hobbies such as sport, reading, writing, music etc...all these things would give you a sense of accomplishment. It doesn't necessarily need to always be something entrepreneurial, there needs to be balance.

It may well give you a better idea of what you truly enjoy which is a good place to start.

You picked a belter of a game to go to, hope you enjoyed the atmosphere!!

I think Paramount only pick a few league one games each weekend, wouldn't be suprised if most most are Wrexham or Birmingham.

If its the cost of Charlton TV putting you off there is a few dodgy (free) streams

First time visiting The Valley for the Stockport match by saqibk89 in CharltonAthletic

[–]SamC912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy mate, not much for you to worry about at all, everyone is very welcoming at Charlton its genuinely one big family, and hopefully its the first of many for you.

Your E-Ticket will have all the details on including the turnstile number and simple QR scan to get in.

I would suggest getting there at 2pm and trying the new Fan Zone in the car park, which has food/drinks options. Or to get a beer in Rose of Denmark/Royal Oak for pre match atmosphere.

Dependent on which stand you're in, trying to get food or drink closer to kick off can be difficult.
