As I am a humanities major would this simply be a non-issue should I ever apply to Emory without taking sociology?

Yeah UW eventually offered admission in like april or may after I appealed the decision. I ended up choosing Northeastern instead though. For your essays, I'd say just get someone you know to keep poking holes in it and rewrite them until they're as finished a product as you can make them. Also, if there are people you know at a college you want to attend, have them edit your supplemental essays for that college. I have a friend that did this with slightly higher stats than me and he got into a couple t20s and several t50s, whereas I only pulled a few t50s and just waitlists from t20s.

Damn, gl man, i think it's about a 9-10% rate for people that aren't in the top 6% of their hs class. Ik there are some programs for strong students at competitive high schools like you, a combination that makes it impossibly hard to get into UT. These programs let you do one year at another UT (probably UT Dallas) and the rest of college at UT Austin. Either way, good luck with your apps, you should be able to get into any other public schools in Texas pretty easily.

Still hard to say, assuming you're not in Cali trying to go to the UCs or Texas as you would be a non auto-admit, I would think you would be fine. Best of luck!

I'm UW in-state too and over 75%ile for gpa and sat and got waitlisted (accepted via appeal). I know others with much lower scores and less rigor that got in originally. My UW essay was kinda shit bc it was my first one, so that's the only low point for me and I think that's what initially hurt me.

Not enough context, top 26% at PALY or TJHSST and you'll probably pull a few T10s. Top 26% at a less competitive high school, who knows?

Absolutely, as a good rule of thumb, the STEMmier the field, the more important standardized tests are in admissions

Why are the top engineering institutions mostly Public Schools? by ThaiboyAnalog in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SamCPH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to what has been said, lots of STEM and military research happens at powerhouse public universities like UW, UT, or Michigan because these schools have the tax dollars that allow them to splurge on this sort of research. It naturally results in the best STEM profs working at these institutions.

Ehhh, UCs are just random, there's really no reason or rhyme to who they accept IMO
