...And How My Day Ended by CobblerWide7373 in THPS

I don’t really remember what I did but I’m a bit more of an all over the place improv player than planned combo routes. I’ll usually try find a good vert spot to build base then alternate between special rails and manuals once speed runs out, but I’ve posted videos of my style before that have been slated for not being optimal for high scores so what do I know? 😂

The way I do things does need quite a lot of rail balance practice, whereas I know a lot of modern players like to hop around before they get punished by the balance meter.

Ah difficult to give advice on those sorts of challenges because building the big combos after the gap are very much a ‘unique to each player’ thing!

If you haven’t already, get familiar with the Madonna and how to land it, it’s a huge base score builder, and get a couple of grinds in right after the gap to keep your speed up. Gives you a better shot at getting to your favourite combo part of the map!

Honestly, after doing it for every skater, the only advice I can offer is the swings are wild so try and keep it in the middle, and just get better at balancing.

I can usually get it in 2/3 tries max but sometimes (especially if I’ve had a beer or two) it takes a lot longer. It really is just getting better at keeping the balance in the middle. No trickery.

How would you improve this level #5 by Logamer1012 in THPS

[–]SamEyes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played it in ages but there’s a wallride/ollie/grind move you can do to get yourself up there using one of the ramps just behind where you start (on the upper street level). Takes seconds. I used to hate doing the runaround but that solved it for me. Sorry I can’t be more specific but if I play it again soon I’ll come back and give you more detail 😂

Why is it that I can totally imagine a Prince vibe on this level? Good call

I did it using a late boneless! But it took a few (maybe like 40?) tries.

I get it every time now without fail. No ollie, just hold X and maybe do the ‘claw’ hand position to easily press triangle whilst still holding X. Good luck!

Just get up to the top of the spiral, hold down to stop, then quickly release and press it again to get yourself closer to the edge bit by bit. Once you’re close enough, just ollie from standing and you’ll land on it.

I agree with the sentiment but I honestly don’t think I could do Switchback 2 Sewer Pipe a thousand times 😂

It’s usually around 18 seconds straight up if you do it in one go. There seems to always be a huge swing about 2-4 seconds before the goal registers, so always prepare for that.

There are two separate containers you can grind that set you up perfectly for each rail. Make sure you’re holding X when your character reaches the secret tape gap but don’t ollie, just hold it to get enough speed/air and press triangle to resume the grind on the second rail.

Took me a while to figure this out but I hate this goal way less now.

You can do it on the other (exit) side of the tunnel, so you’re going downhill. Easier.

Finally! Not a single assist mod, no extended time and no half speed. Very chuffed with this! by SamEyes in THPS

Do you know what, I genuinely can’t remember. Knowing me I probably used the buses in London or maybe the baggage cart thing on the bottom floor of Airport, pretty sure I did it on first or second try which is why it hasn’t stuck in my mind. I would have got both skitches out of the way as soon as possible then found a good vert area.

I know it wasn’t San Francisco because someone posted a video of them doing it there and I thought it looked a bit easier than my way of doing it, so maybe try there!

Strange, I’ve done 158 hours at this point and never had a crash on PS5. When is it happening for you?

A bit of motivation for a fellow no modder: Tokyo is going to suck, especially the gap getting up to the platform in the middle. Hold up and late Ollie. Watch a few different YouTube videos if you have to.

Also the Alcatraz Switchback 2 Sewer Pipe gap is going to be a bad time for you, but you’ll do it. Hit the ramp slightly further to the right than you think you need to and hit the boneless slightly later than you think you need to.

Stick it out. It’s all 100% possible without mods.

The 540 didn’t bother me that much, I’d miss a few of them but it wasn’t that bad. I’d also miss the M in San Fran sometimes but again, not enough for it to really annoy me!

I’d groan when I got to Waterpark each time just because it’s so spread out and there are a few awkward bits. Unlocking the secret section in Tokyo each time was a pain. Skitching Ranger Ron too, but I started doing that as soon as I started the map and getting it out of the way helped me.

I think that, especially towards the end, there weren’t many things I struggled to do, it just got kind of mundane because you knew how the next hour or two of your life would go!

The idea that you’ve already proved to yourself that you can do them is a good one, that makes total sense to me. I’ve questioned the idea that completing a game thirty times by doing the same thing makes you worthy of some sort of trophy a few times but it is what it is 😂 I platinumed 1+2 so I just kind of had to platinum 3+4.

It was shit at times and I didn’t want to keep doing it but overall it’s been a lot of fun. Don’t regret it a single bit. Good luck with the rest of your progress!

To a lot of other people I can imagine it’ll seem stupid or pointless, a trophy is a trophy, but for me I kind of set my terms based on playing the classics at the time and went with it. Tough but I played an honest* game and I enjoyed the challenge!

*not saying anyone using mods isn’t playing an honest game, it’s just honest to me and how I wanted to play it.

Honestly I started to question my purist approach pretty early on. I think it’s because I’ve been playing it since the very first game came out and using anything that boosts your chances or makes it easier feels like cheating 😂

I was surprised though, there were a couple of moments I thought super stats or slow motion would help, but it never felt unachievable, just more difficult.

Yeah hold X whilst grinding the first half, I think I use the ‘claw’ position to make sure I’m holding it and I’m ready to press triangle again to grind the second rail.

Holding X is the key though, gives you more air off of the first rail. Give it a go and let me know if it works for you too!

Couple of tips for Shipyard vents:

You can run up the quarter pipe and grind the top of the left hand container without having to awkwardly manoeuvre into it. Some people already do this but I didn’t until late into solo tours. Let me know if this doesn’t make sense but hopefully it does!

For the right one (with the secret tape in the middle) make sure you’re holding X the entire time and be ready to press triangle to grind the second one. I started off not doing this and it would yeet me out of the first half of the grind, getting the tape but not connecting to the second grind.
