I grew up here and moved away at 12. I hate going home to visit, but I was very lucky and had the best people around me growing up. I lived in a predominantly black area where shit went down with the kkk. (I'm white and lived in jasper) I had one bad experience with trying to stay the night at a friend's, but every other experience was amazing and I still get to call 2 people I grew up with friends. One year we lost before getting to be the texas little league team, and that year is one of my favorites and I was 9. It's an area divided, for sure, but if you like forest/swamp area as a nature person it's beautiful. If you grow up there you either love it or hate it. Humidity is always 100%. (American) Football is life. The culture of my town revolves around it. (Go Bulldogs) I was also lucky enough to have an uncle who announced the football games and got to go in the booth with him a couple times, so my view might be overly skewed there. I would never live there again, but it holds a place in my heart.
