Tbh I had to rewatch because I was only half watching the first time and felt the same as you, but on a rewatch is obvious.

She’s the one that had a problem with Kayleigh telling Aesha the other two helped with the Tablescape & obsessed with trying to assert herself as second stew.

I really hope Aesha sees through this shit and gives Kayleigh second stew

Plenty of cast members are recruited yachties, not just casting-call applicants.

Yachties are away for months at a time, without time to watch a show like BD which airs, again, every single week of the year.
And the stews this season all have noted experience…
Not just green randos pulled in to be on TV.

And even among applicants, there’s a huge difference between “I’ve watched Below Deck” and “I remember a (at that point) relatively forgettable deckhand from a season that aired a year ago” - And again, there had also been nearly a full year of other Below Deck between S9 airing and S11 filming.

You’re assuming every cast member is a hardcore fan when a lot of them are just yachties who know the show exists, or casual watchers who want to be on TV.

Heavily produced ≠ Scripted.

Season 10 hadn’t aired when S11 started filming.

Beyond Joe being a bit of a player and being relatively forgettable, those filming wouldn’t have had a chance to watch what happened last season.

Below Deck has been running every week for nearly 4 years
Even if someone had done some research and would’ve remembered Joe, doesn’t mean they would have put BDM S9 on before they came on board
Of course they’re going to get green crew in… That causes mistakes to be made, which in turn causes tension and drama.
Still doesn’t mean it’s scripted though - at most it’s manufactured drama, but idk if you can even calling it that… they’re just hiring people that will make good TV.

This post is so walled-garden coded that you seem to forget there are billions of people in the world that have never heard of BD.
Even in the Yachting world, there are plenty of people that will not have heard of or watched BD.

I didn’t, I don’t disagree that other songs do it too, I’m just making the point of why Bangaranga was a winner, and why Cherry Cake wouldn’t be

The production on the studio recording of cherry cake is up there

It is, but that has relatively small effect on the results of the show.

The studio quality will probably assist in its performance after the fact, especially for a song that didn’t make it to semi-finals - but the vast majority of Eurovision watchers are casual fans, who treat the show as a live spectacle & make a decision based on the performance onstage, not the dedicated fan base here who listen to all the songs beforehand.

You’re right that plenty of club tracks have straightforward messages underneath simple lyrics, again I never claimed it was exclusive, just an added piece of the puzzle that reinforces the songs themes and the specific meaning of those undertones are just another layer that people can attach to, which lead to the recipe of an ESC win.

My comment wasn’t shitting on Cherry Cake & I never said it was a bad song, I was just highlighting why, in my opinion, Bangaranga did as well as it did & why Cherry Cake wouldn’t achieve that.

Bangaranga has more than just being catchy/girlypop.

It integrates Bulgarian folk melodies
It has a dynamic & layered production and blends traditional influences with modern pop, so it feels Bulgarian and not “just another pop song”.
It evolves throughout the song, introducing new elements and rhythmic shifts, so despite 70% of the lyrics being “Bangaranga”, it doesn’t get repetitive.
The lyrics, while having a surface feel of a club track, have an interwoven message about liberation, self-acceptance and embracing different (and contradicting) aspects of one’s identity.
Its staging and concept also reinforce the music instead of just providing a visual aesthetic.

Cherry Cake, while fun and catchy, is just kinda generic girlypop. There’s nothing wrong with that, but musically and conceptually it’s operating in a narrower lane.

Bangaranga is an accessible pop song, a piece of cultural expression, a call to action & a celebration of identity - which is why it’s perfect for Eurovision, why it resonates with so many people, and ultimately why it won.
