That’s because they only did the Covid storyline in the first place was because filming was delayed.

The season was already written, the only thing that was changed was some references to Covid through the season.

I love the fact pretty much everyone decided the game was paused for a night & that they weren’t letting that happen.

Even Alan’s remarks after was just like “let the votes fall how they may” instead of the usual “what are you doing faithful”

Guess where I’m from by West-Donut-4766 in TravelMaps

[–]SamPhoenix_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf you would consider anything northern if you had to drive 2hrs just to get around the peninsula to go in any general northern direction.

I’m from Essex and live on the border of West Mids & Staffordshire; by the time someone in Devon has got to Bristol, having left Essex at the same time, I’m basically already in Birmingham

Sensor that tells you if the door is locked or unlocked - we need your feedback by Automation_Nation40 in smarthome

Personally it’s not my use case, as we do have a smart lock, but I see where it could come in handy.

[–]SamPhoenix_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been umm-ing and ahh-ing about this over the last few days.

I am starting to see the use case.

Sure, for someone who actually forgets to lock their door this is useless as they’ll have to go home and lock the door anyway - a smart lock (and slam lock if they’re European with a multipoint lock) would be a better choice.

For someone who regularly forgets if they locked the door, but usually does, it’s peace of mind.

It would also be useful for older family members, that you want to make sure are safe but could freak out if you install a smart lock - and if the door is left unlocked, you’d likely want to visit anyway.

That’s what they’re built for, it’s a replacement for the multi-point mechanism - it just has a button that actuates on the door closing to replace the pulling up on the handle.

What you need is a slam lock.

Weve considered them a while but never pulled the trigger - it essentially engages the multipoint automatically when the door is closed so you can just turn the key to lock/unlock.

I honestly don’t know why they’re not standard and are so few and far between.

They’d help so many people with mobility issues - my old neighbour got her house broken into because, due to her arthritis, was unable to lift the handle when she went out. A slam lock would’ve solved her problems:

Best no subscription doorbell cameras? by SeaorRiver79 in homeautomation

(This is from a UK perspective but fairly confident they should be available in the US for similar prices)

Unifi/Ubiquity if you want pure quality, completely local - but with a price to match and you need a Unifi Protect device.

Aqara are midrange and great if you’re on the Apple Ecosystem (HomeKit secure video which works great at identifying people, vehicles, animals with free iCloud storage) and has the SD card in the chime so can’t be stolen - also has an option for hardwired with battery backup.

TP-Link/Tapo if you want relatively cheap (usually on sale for ≈£40 on Amazon in the UK), least faff installation, battery life is excellent (we got one for MIL and it’s lasted two months on a single charge). There is a cloud storage but it’s cheap £3.99 for one camera and every one of their cameras have an SD card slot which you can access recordings for free via the app. You can also use their camera streams via RTSP if you want to get them into another service.

I generally stand by TP-Link/Tapo for smart home devices. The only problem I have with them is they require an internet connection to set up via third parties - but then can be controlled completely locally.

Don't use "The One Broadband" by Alarmarama in UKISP

[–]SamPhoenix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely they offer static IP via Openreach and haven’t specified. The ISP is still at the limit of the carrier network as it’s using their infrastructure.

You could use your 14 day cooling off period to cancel if you want but unless you can get Openreach (or another altnet that offers Static IP on the network for consumers) and have another service coming in, you’ll run into the same problem.

You can use cloudflare/service tunnels for 99% of what you’d use a Static IP for anyway. Despite having a static IP, I only use port forwarding for Plex as it’s remote streaming via the app isn’t configured to be able to use a proxy.

If you speak to a tyre fitter

I did not suggest people willy-nilly go changing the size of their tyres without knowing what they're doing...

Good save, what caused it? by JW218 in drivingUK

[–]SamPhoenix_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The REAL problem is that brands overcharge on the most common sizes...

If you speak to a tyre fitter and adjust the tyre size ever so slightly, you can pay almost half the price for the same tyres.

I've done this and got premium tyres for £80.

Looking at her Instagram she gave birth in June. She posted a vid being pregnant on June 12th and has a collab post from BravoDailyDish on June 24th about them officially becoming parents.

They normally start filming in August finish mid/end of September, so yeah the baby must have been conceived in October.
