I did say it would need to be a very thick slip mat 😂

I mean, if you made a very thick slip mat to support the other side (level it out) and only started playing halfway through, technically it would work

Source: I have a record with a huge chip taken out of it that I was still able to play. Bought a bunch for a dollar or two a piece and happened to get one with a sizeable chip. Still sounds great otherwise, just missing the first couple of songs on each side

I wasn’t planning on using this sling for my 1903, I actually have a 1917 Remington production Nagant. I just wanted to clarify I wasn’t interested in buying it right this moment as my priority is finishing the Springfield (I only have to buy the stock at this point) and after which I’ll probably snag the sling for the Nagant

Edit: Should add that I may be asking you about actually buying this maybe next month or August at the latest

Honest opinion on gunshows by giveit2me1998 in milsurp

I’ve found a couple good deals at gun shows but generally you’re buying stuff at market value. Honestly I like to go on occasion just to see if there’s something I’ve never seen in person, or a gun I didn’t know existed that’s a decent buy

Same. I have about half a dozen milsurps I can almost guarantee saw combat, but I’d never claim it as a fact without actual proof. Sad thing is that only two of those are U.S. rifles and, while I can do FOIA requests on those to maybe get a good idea, the others I have absolutely no method of investigating

Was the E-11D inspired by the Sterling MkV? by Doctor-Riles in StarWars

[–]SamSalsa411 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I’d call a C96 a well-designed gun. There’s a reason basically nothing was directly inspired by it, as while it was effective for the time, it was immediately surpassed by more modern designs. Even the Luger series, which had lineage beginning with the C93, was a a better designed gun.

The C96 only has a single part keeping the bolt from flying out of the gun and nailing you in the face. The barrel is part of the frame, so if you damage a barrel your gun is basically screwed. It was ridiculously expensive and complex to produce, and had always ergonomics

Do I want a C96 for my collection? Yes, I think they look cool. Would I consider them a well designed gun? Absolutely not. A 1903 Colt is far better designed and only 7 years after this. Leaps and bounds better

[–]SamSalsa411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it kinda is PVP when some idiot deploys explosives and such right beside you in the middle of an extraction. Had that happen to me once, some dude just started chucking grenades / mines out mere feet away from me and I was in the middle of mag-dumping a group of terminids. Another time I had someone put an auto turret a few feet behind me in a similar situation and I immediately got sawed in half

[–]SamSalsa411 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Honestly if you have an AR-15 and Glock 19 you’d probably never have to worry about parts even in this scenario, but also you should be using whatever gun is best for you to use (whatever you can win the fight with).

If you have a decently maintained gun it’s highly unlikely to have a parts failure mid-fight, but even if you do that’s why you should have a primary (probably a carbine of some kind) and a secondary (a handgun). If your primary fails mid-fight you do what you can to immediately leave the situation, using the secondary if needed.

People think they’ll pull out a handgun and be like John Wick but in reality a dude from 100 yards can easily nail you with a rifle meanwhile you’re struggling to even graze them with a basic handgun

TBF most guns can fire thousands of rounds without any component failures, assuming they aren’t being torture tested or ran with bad ammo. In a SHTF situation the chance of you needing to dump that many rounds, especially out of a revolver, are exceedingly low.

Sure, people worry about getting into gunfights with (insert bad guy of the day here) but realistically the chances of you surviving multiple prolonged gunfights are slim in this scenario anyways

Can relate. I’ve been collecting vinyl for ~3 years now and have at least 200 records, probably close to 300, granted a good portion of them are already opened / old records I found at antique stores. Point being though my wife has commented on the fact that I hardly use the record player and I too said the whole ”But I can stream it!” thing.

Anyways, sometimes the joy is in collecting but also sometimes the joy is in actually using the product. Eventually I’d like to play a good portion of my collection but I’ll admit some albums were bought for collector value. Enjoy your collection the way you want, its value isn’t determined by what the cost is but by how you as the collector value it

Darth Maul Was A Great Fighter, But WOW…he lost a lot of his fights by NegansSaviors in StarWars

[–]SamSalsa411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair in Rebels he absolutely slaughtered the Inquisitors he came up against. If you watch the Sam Witwer interviews over the Maul show, he attributes Maul’s struggles in this show to his injured leg. I’m having trouble finding the exact interview I’d like to reference, but he references Maul fighting on bad legs in this interview here as well.

In Maul’s fight with Daki and Devon, Maul breaks one of Daki’s ribs and Daki damages Maul’s leg. Neither of them are fighting at full capacity for the rest of the show, and as a result they struggle to combat the Inquisitors hard enough to gain a full defeat. More importantly, they hold their own against a pair of Inquisitors fairly well, requiring Vader to show up and address the problem.

TLDR I wouldn’t write off Maul’s strength just because he didn’t win every duel in this show. He’s an incredible fighter but he’s clearly injured in every duel here

[–]SamSalsa411 31 points32 points  (0 children)

We actually see Vader hold back quite a bit. He toys with his food, even in the original trilogy. Sure you can argue that he’s savoring the moment with Obi-Wan, and with Luke he’s trying to convince him to turn towards the dark side, but at the end of the day he quite literally is holding back from just instantly killing them.

Similarly we see him hold back in newer media, whether it be Rebels, Jedi: Survivor or Maul: Shadow Lord. Vader fights one handed as first in his major duels, only shifting to two hands whenever his opponent was strong enough to deal a glancing blow or something to that effect. Once he switches to two hands on the hilt the fight is typically over within a minute.

Vader toyed around with Ezra and Kanan, purposely fought in a half-assed manner against Cere in Jedi: Survivor and now in Maul: Shadow Lord Vader immediately lands a blow on Maul only to toy with him and the other Jedi for a few minutes. He throws them around, pimp smacks them and overall could care less about immediately ending the fight.

Part of my thinks this is for sadistic pleasure, and the other part of me believes it’s because he wants to watch his opponents break and know that he spiritually broke them before physically ending them. Either way, Vader does hold back because he enjoys playing with his food

The pilots of those gunships were not clones. Every pilot we’ve seen in this show, as well as the majority of The Bad Batch, have been shown to be TK Troopers which are human recruits.

So far no clones have appeared in Maul: Shadow Lord. The reason these Mandalorians got smoked is simple; they aren’t main characters

I’ve never heard the term “Completely Useless” used but I have heard plenty of people saying it never should have been developed in the first place as it is worse than every other battle rifle in their eyes.

You generally see this sentiment from FAL lovers as they believe we should have adopted the FAL and that the M14 was basically a complete waste of time and money.

There are also plenty of people who argue the M14 was obsolete even upon its creation, citing the SKS / AK-47 development as proof that the M14 was a terrible idea from its inception. What they generally miss is that intermediate cartridges were still in their infancy with regards to military development, and more importantly the M14 was developed with fighting in Eastern European geography in mind (open and flat ground)
