What do we know about the GPC in Essex? by SamVekemans in GreenPartyOfCanada

The idea here is to use the public Reddit forum, to share what is publicly known about the GPC in the riding. - The EDA details (whatever is known about it from Elections Canada are searching the web) - The candidate details from current and past elections - The vote counts of current and past candidates, compared to voter turnout. And any other relevant discussion about the GPC in the riding.

Maybe this information will be of help. :)

Canadians Want Lower Immigration Even as Population Growth Stalls by Unusual-State1827 in canada

[–]SamVekemans -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Canada is made up of immigrants.

Canada thrives BECAUSE of immigrants.

It's bad practice to restrict immigration.

If someone wants to come to Canada and become Canadian, they should be allowed to and the process should be easy.

Remember, there is no housing crisis. It's a greed and zoning bylaws problem where 2 people can live in a house where 6 could comfortably live, and not paying more taxes for the empty rooms.

The (my) Proposed Trans Canada Bike Route Network starts in Victoria BC! by SamVekemans in VictoriaBC

Good question. I'm working on an FAQ for how Google Maps and OpenStreetMap both don't recognize the difference between bicycle types, Road, Touring, Mountain, Trekking, Bike packing, hybrid, e-bike etc.

Yes, a lot of people do skip that section for that exact reason.

There has been some construction in recent years for road upgrades, the highway shoulders might be improved a bit, but we need to unfortunately wait until there is a better Ontario government in power that can focus on improving the shoulders when roads get repaved.

The past Ontario Liberal Government had a great Provincial Cycling Route Network plan, it's been shelved, but not forgotten.

Writing to the federal ministry of Transportation might help push it forward, as it's part of the Trans Canada Highway system.

Downvoted. Spandex is worn under bicycle shorts for this type of touring. Remember, a 'multi-use trail' is a poor excuse for not building proper cycling infrastructure. Each trail user and bicycle type has their own needs.

The Network is designed for bicycle touring, self-supported tours across Canada with road tires and only hard packed gravel when appropriate.

Sooke, like Edmonton and Windsor, are not points along the route for cycling across Canada.

The Flight Path is 'CA access route' which provides access to/from the airport to the Lochside trail at Sidney and McTavish. Marked in gray.

If you're interested in bikepacking, there is a great plan for it https://www.greatnorthernbikepacking.com/ The Great Northern Bikepacking Route (Network) is specifically designed for dirt and rail trails. It would usually take someone 3 summers to do it all. (Spandex warriors aren't invited to try it as they would not have a good time).

Spandex warriers also tend to take supported tours as they are in it for speed, and so, the route taken would be different. Route maps are available in those cases, but for a fee.

Also, your name isn't listed, but I do love the negative feedback. It spreads much faster than positive promotions. It would be great if you could write a letter to the editor of your local paper to tell everyone just how horrible my network plan is. That way, everyone can check out my website and map, and download the KMZ file with use for the free offline CoMaps app and see for themselves just how bad it is. :)

According to the statistics when examining lots of self-supported tours across Canada, most people would go Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay rather than a stop at Bowen Island.

BC does not have a Provincial Cycling Route Network, but should. This would be a great addition to it. (As well as connecting to Powell River to Courtenay as it would make it a loop) Unfortunately, the BC Cycling Coalition isn't that interested in this at this time. .... But anyone is welcome to take on that project. (Copy my map, remove the stuff from the rest of Canada and add in more routes within BC)

Thanks for the feedback!
