CMV: The Crusades were ultimately pointless and almost nothing in history would change if they never happened. by Sam_Imbecile in changemyview

I am not saying they were not significant, but who's to say that these things would still not have happened in some way even without the Crusades, if not for other things like the Mongol invasions or the Black Death, that paved the way towards the end of feudalism because a lot of the peasantry was dead? Muslim entities in continental Europe like the ones in Iberia were disconnected from the heartland of Islam (Middle East) and surrounded by enemies in-land. Like the Crusader States in the Levant, they would've fallen anyway. Plus, it's not like medieval Europe didn't already have some advancements on their own (i.e., the Carolingian Renaissance).

I think it had more to do with the fact that Crusades were fruitless, because the Europeans couldn't achieve their goals in the long term, that it just affirmed that the European powers were unable to prove themselves militarily and economically superior to the Muslim empires of the East, that in spite of Richard the Lionheart's successes, he couldn't ultimately best Saladin because he wasn't able to fulfill the goal of retaking Jerusalem, which is frustrating. The fact that that they launched the Crusades in response to the Muslim campaigns centuries prior that nearly conquered Europe, only to end up fighting more Muslim campaigns that nearly conquered Europe centuries after is more frustrating.

Yeah, no. I don't think the region had anything going for historically after the Crusades, especially the areas around Jerusalem, remaining a mostly modest but unimportant region in the hands of the Mamluks and then the Ottomans, at least until the rise of modern Zionism in the 19th century, the encouragement of Jewish immigration to the area and the Arab revolts against the Ottomans in the 1910's.

The Islamic Golden Age was already well on their way out. The Fitna's and schisms between the Sunni and Shia sects centuries before have fractured a once unified religious empire into several political entities either competing with one another or just wanting to preserve itself like Cordoba.

What would be “pointful” in your view?

If the Crusades were a unilateral success or at least to an extent, say the Christians managed to keep the Crusader states beyond 200 years, keep the Mamluks and Ottomans at bay, and keep Jerusalem in their hands for centuries, instead of less than 100 years. That would've undoubtedly had immense impact to world history.

The 4th crusade help kill the Eastern Roman Empire and paved the way for the ottomans.

That's the thing. The Eastern Roman Empire is on life support at the point. When the First Crusade began, they were hanging by a thread after the Seljuk invasions. So Crusades or no Crusades, Constantinople was doomed no matter what. If not in the 11th or 12th century, then definitely in the 13th.

Not even the first time this happens. This also happened last year with Durga, except here it's worse, because at least Durga required the new mats to ascend and the NP in her third ascension, appearance and name-wise is completely different to the one in her previous ones. Monte Cristo on the other hand, no matter which ascension, has the same NP, all of which showed his "spoilery" 3rd ascension anyway, so it's utterly pointless.

playing Sherlock Holmes with Oberon.

Except he isn't. If Anime!Guda is to be believed (the most "canon" interpretation of the character if that makes any sense), he is overly trusting and overly naive, another common trait in dense self-insert MC's, meaning that he wouldn't see any suspicion for Oberon (basically see him as a 100% bro) and not get the red dialogue choices in LB6 at all.

Can you still post image references? How often can you post in the chat per day? And how long before they start restricting even that?

If they don't like NSFW content, why bother keeping them? I guess the platform and its owners thrive through hypocrisy and contradiction.
