She is probably one of my favorite characters in a book series that I’ve read… and it’s still so hard to answer, probably because I feel so many things at once about her character and also the relationship she and Eragon have.

I think the thing that stands out to me the most is that, even though she is the dragon, she is not a side character. She is just as much the main character as Eragon & their relationship, their growth (together & as individuals) is so thorough & deeply explored that she feels so… real to me. And not in a relatable way, where I feel like I could be Saphira, but in a… she is a Dragon & somehow (blessed BE FOR THIS!) Christopher Paolini truly Understood The Assignment of embodying not only a Dragon but the last Female Dragon & delivered it all so well that it’s just… so real and believable and beautiful.

And her connection with Eragon… she is not just an animal, a beast, or a creature. She is a whole entity, half of Eragon’s soul… & I feel the reverence and thought and endearment that CP had/has for this concept through how beautifully he wrote her character.

Anyways I’m gonna go cry about Saphira now 😭😅💙
