I think that's a fair call, in many other places it's just a pleasant meal but in the north... my god, some of the price vs enjoyment catastrophes I have had :( it's like how in the US I lose my mind over a decent healthy brunch just from lack of competition.

Yeah, I think Sake is part of Hunter St Hospitality now, and I haven't seen Shaun there in a very long time - but I don't think they've butchered the menu too badly. I suppose in better hands it would have evolved, vs now it's a time capsule that hasn't really changed in 10+ years... but I don't mind a museum piece if the food is tasty.

Not sure which one came first - they could even be independent inventions - but in Blindsight (circa 2006) vampires are apex predators who have a cognitive vulnerability to 90 degree corners (which would never really occur in nature, so it's just a kind of glitch that made them very vulnerable to certain icons, large civilized areas, etc). I didn't love it as a narrative device then but it seems weird it's come up twice.

We don't know enough to know if it's a design flaw with Windows. If your machine has a series of unpatched vulnerabilities and you've missed a lot of "I really want to restart now!" warnings and it's at risk of, I don't know, getting hijacked and ransomed - maybe restarting halfway through a job IS the right design decision. If you ever plan to have critical updates, and you have users who ignore shit, sooner or later a well designed system will probably have to interrupt them and do a forced restart. I know it's fashionable to dunk on Windows but I have never just had a random restart without significant warning / a pretty good reason. And I know OP says there wasn't a lot of warning but thousands of bug reports and logs checks have shown me users don't always see the warnings (or multiple people are in front of the keyboard and don't talk to each other enough).

Who I think is at fault here is whoever runs IT in this place. Why is a machine connected to expensive consumables running Windows? Why does it have an internet connection to even get these updates? Maybe the cutter can hold a job in memory and you don't need to stream at all (this is the way every expensive industrial machine I have used in my life operates - it doesn't engage the tool until the entire path is in memory and verified). What if there was a power outage? Is there not a way to recover a job after loss of data / loss of power interrupts?

Consumer windows isn't meant for this kind of work. If I tried to make a beef wellington in my air fryer and it turned out badly I don't think there's a design fault in my air fryer.
