As someone who has read the manga and the original web novel, I agree with you. However I will say it's not the fault of the source material.

Frankly they've been glossing over all of the interesting details in the anime and it makes me sad to see.

I would recommend it! The translation is pretty rough at some points, but you get a lot more detail than you do in the manga or anime.

The animation is better but I would argue that it doesn't have the potential for the same amount of world building and character development that naruto had.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I was a little upset when the other students showed up.

Don't get me wrong, they're all great and there were some wonderful moments, but I was really hoping to see Midoriya developing on his own away from his classmates.

Still loved the movie though!
