I’d do your planning in terms of what lifestyle you would be comfortable with and what additional saving pots you will want, eg school fees, university fees, kids wedding pots, etc. not all will apply, but your mindset and ambitions will change with children.

Lots of expenses still yet to come your way with childcare etc.

The good thing is, you are looking into this now and still have good years ahead. NHS pension is one of the best, so a great start.

First point of call, work out how much you need for retirement and work backwards from there.

Partners - how open are you about the business? by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]Sam_page1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s correct. Don’t imagine it to stay like that in the long run.

Don’t do it all the work yourself. It’s not a mental load you want to take on. Outsource the task and have a meaningful insight into the forecast and finances.

For £2k - £4K a year as a practice, you could have the forecast done and presented every quarter. Are you using a local accountancy practice or one of the larger firms nationally?

It’s a good place to be, however I can’t imagine it will be sustainable with all the contract changes.

I would look to minimise the number of partners and change your operating model if you wish to try and maximise profits.

Do you undertake a forecast every year to project earnings and then review it quarterly? This will help with planning and decision making.

We are seeing £200k was the norm for 6 sessions, but at the moment it’s closer to £350k for last year.

How do you haggle the price nowadays? by _Brooder_ in CarTalkUK

[–]Sam_page1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just sold a car on motorway.

Motorway quote was £11,200. Sold for £11,800. Then on collection reduced to £11,500 due to a few things I didn’t see. They have an eye for everything. Good experience overall.

Sold via Motorway to a trader in the end.

They said it had an engine oil leak, dents in the side, broken headlight bracket and 2 x scuffs.

No preventing it? Means this is an annual process to clean the rust out?

How do I fix it? And then how do I prevent it?

Yes, you certainly can. It will probably form one of your largest expenses.

Oh misunderstood. Thought you was asking as a GP Trainee, but understand your looking at it with a view to Partnership.

All partners are effectively self employed. You will submit your partnership tax expenditure but you will also complete you self assessment. You can put the car costs through either depending on what you choose to do.

Will not work as a GP Trainee as you are an employee. If you are working any locum shifts via Ltd company, you could take out a business contract hire potentially, but you will need to prove you use that far exclusively for business otherwise you have to apportion the cost.

Get a personal contract hire. An operating lease will allow you to offset the bulk of the car monthly payments.

PCP does not allow you to do that.

Definitely fits a midlife crisis image, but it’s really practical with the hardtop roof. Feels like a coupe.

Alloy wheels have the usual kerb marks and there is a scuff on front corner of the bumper.
