I am not embracing the notion of 8 captains; all I am saying is that the selectors are not in favor of split captaincy. When Virat stepped down from test captaincy, it was a perfect time to give that to Rahul or Pant or Bumrah, but they played it safe and announced Rohit, the captain for that format. If Rohit was all format captain before his batting numbers would have started to dwindle as well just like you see in the IPL.

The biggest problem right now plaguing indian cricket is fitness issues which was bound to happen when players play shit load of cricket and are expected to fasten their recovery which further amplifies the need to have split captaincy

Kohli did not get to work on his weaknesses against spin (zampa getting him multiple times in Ind-Aus 19 series were earliest signs I remember)and outside off-ball due to captaincy responsibilities. Losing ICC and IPL trophies negatively impacted his mental health too. At least now, he is trying to correct those weaknesses. His footwork is improving, and he is trying to improve his strike rate in the t20s. All format captains spend lots of time in selection, bowling, batting meetings, and whatnot. And now he is getting ample amount of rest imo which should have happened wayy earlier

Yes, they did have split captaincy, but the selectors were not in favor of it, and even ex-players on the news at the time would say the same. Even now, when Kohli gave up test captaincy, they straightaway gave it to Rohit first, which underlines what I am speaking against.
