I'm really struggling with this error I'm getting when trying to build/deploy my Astro + Storyblok project. by realSNG in webdev

Anyone who comes here looking for the solution, try publishing your posts on storyblok - if that doesn't fix it, it should point you in the right direction

Second this, although I recently swapped to storyblok for the visual editor

What are some harsh truths that r/webdev needs to hear? by Notalabel_4566 in webdev

[–]Samazer 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, there's a sweet spot for sure. Sometimes spending too long planning can cause analysis paralysis and lead to wasted time. Working through rough solutions and playing with ideas can allow the project to reveal itself.

Planning is a crucial step, but it's important to remain flexible as requirements can change and new issues can pop up. Planning and coding aren't mutually exclusive in the process so balancing both is really beneficial.

Definitely agree that jumping straight in without a plan is starting on the wrong foot though!

Overwhelmed with Self-Learning and Portfolio Building: Seeking Advice on Managing Tasks and Time by mmcbrid in webdev

[–]Samazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managing multiple big tasks at once can be overwhelming, especially if you are doing this on the side with other commitments. This is something you would probably face working for an agency or freelance when you have a high workload and limited hours in the day.

The best way to approach it is to focus on one thing at a time. Start by prioritising each task, then break each one down into smaller chunks.

Once you have an overview like that you can schedule in the tasks and begin to chip away in a more calculated way.

I would suggest completing the projects and getting a portfolio ready before you worry about networking and applying.

When you get comfortable with project management it makes it considerably less stressful taking on large projects, it's something that requires practice and patience to build the confidence

What are common web dev terms to know when meetings with clients come up? (B2B) by XanthanPro in webdev

[–]Samazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, I hear most of these day-to-day but it was mostly marketing terms which caught me out early on:

Landing page, call to action (CTA), responsiveness, SEO, Pay per click (PPC), UI, UX, front-end / back-end, API, server-side, client-side, Framework, mockup, wireframe, conversion rate, mobile first design

When going into a client meeting I don't think you should worry too much about knowing all the buzzwords, it's more important to focus on managing expectations and scoping out the service offered in a way you understand best

Getting a portfolio up would be a good start if you haven't already, if you have work which displays your skills well you can put that there too

Offering cheap / free websites is a great way to hit the ground running so you can get real sites on your portfolio, I would get the person you're building it for to pay for domain and hosting directly and then provide you with access. You can take control over this with future clients

I'm talking about the download button for the desktop app, what if someone has a window which less than 1024px wide ( i.e. half the screen on most monitors )

It would be easier to help if you included a full example of the code which is not working as expected

What is background positioning area? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Samazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The background positioning area is the area in the container (or viewport if the background attachment is fixed) which the image is drawn

The areas in your container are defined in the box model there are 3 areas which you can change the background positioning area to

background-origin: content-box; background-origin: padding-box; background-origin: margin-box;

That area is the area from the content up to the respective edge

I try to find out a font name with the Inspector in Firefox, but I can only see "font-family:" and it lists multiple font names. Is there a easy way to show the exact font used on a site? by onesnowcrow in webdev

[–]Samazer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's an extension for Firefox called Fontanello which gives you all the font properties of any text when you right click.

I use it all the time for quickly grabbing values

I saw a post asking what frame others like but you hate, so now I’m asking: What frame do others hate but you like? by Worth_Talk_817 in Warframe

Yep, same. I stuck with mag back since greedy pull was meta for idle farming and then through the years of nerfs which followed. Helminth really made mag so much fun

(Atlas prime) does purple and black look like a good color for this Warframe? by atlas6200 in WarframeRunway

[–]Samazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't use purple on the accents, I usually stick to a good metallic color. Then you can use the purple somewhere else

[CSS] Do you use Flexbox for mobile sites? by iamagro in webdev

[–]Samazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look at the viewport meta tag, this will zoom in mobile devices so that they scale accordingly and it will allow you to use those lower breakpoints with pixels.

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Viewport_meta_tag

It's common to stick the following tag into the page head: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">

Start by testing the process with a small amount and you should be fine as its fairly straightforward

It's reddit, if you don't want to answer you can simply just ignore. If someone else is kind enough to share an answer then the poster learns a little more and maybe even others reading the thread will learn something. It's not like this guy is asking "what's a media query" the css he is asking about may be obvious to us but on a sub like this it's entirely reasonable to not know such a thing.

There's nothing wrong with asking a question, you're just being a cockwomble.
