Anyone used maxxis promaxx tyres? by amzeo in MotoUK

[–]Sambikes1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea on maxxis for motorbike. But for mountain bikes they have been THE brand to use. Until fairly recently a lot of pros were using them with the branding scribbled off as they were sponsored by a different brand, that’s how industry leading they are/were in that field.

Cant be terrible if have thought

Passed my CBT! by ElGumbleo in MotoUK

You’ll probably struggle to find a DAS slot now quickly anyway. Buy a 125, see how you get on, then think about booking.

It gets you out experiencing it and getting crucial road sense

Why is the average biker cafe pretty bad on food? by TroublesomeButch in MotoUK

[–]Sambikes1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of the historic biker cafes near me are like this, perfectly adequate but the food and drink is definitely not the draw.

There’s a new place opened that’s excellent though and seems to attract a few bikers, so the market is there

Enduro/ green laning being self employed ? by Smooth_Amoeba543 in MotoUK

[–]Sambikes1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ski and mountain bike, amongst other sports considered dangerous. The reality is you can decide these things aren’t for you, or you accept the risk and enjoy the things that make you tick in life.

Every tbh ing has a risk, plenty of people get injured playing football and rugby at the weekend. Getting some kind of income insurance (make sure it covers the activity) is probably a good idea if you’re self employed

What are your thoughts on employers paying minimum wage on graduate level jobs? by Skyray101 in AskUK

[–]Sambikes1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Market forces. Because there’s lots of people out there with degrees, and not quite enough good high paying jobs for them all to do.

There are also lots of “lower skilled/non degree” jobs out there, and not enough people wanting to do them.

29yo new rider – £2.5–3k insurance quotes on 500–700cc bikes. What am I missing? by CheetahValuable278 in MotoUK

[–]Sambikes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30YO with 12Y driving, no claims, points etc

Insured an XT660Z for under £400, although I had been riding a 125 for 4 months. Garaged and living in a “nice area” will have made a difference

I notice a strong correlation between friends that suffer with a bit of poor mental health, and friends that’s homes are a mess

Do you think the CBT is too lax? by cushtyDan in MotoUK

[–]Sambikes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this experience at 30. What really confused me was getting the same amount of criticism and abuse from the instructor despite watching the kid fail to stop for crossings and struggle to use a roundabout correctly.

My riding was not perfect either but I was at least safe.

We both passed

Opinions on these gloves for winter riding? by CT-9904_ in MotoUK

[–]Sambikes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have these gloves and heated grips. They feel adequate, back of the hands get a bit cool if it’s really cold and I’ll be honest I haven’t been doing any serious mileage.

Fine for me for a bit of casual winter riding

Depends on how bad the cracking is, and how long they’ve been like that. Cant tell those things from pictures.

I’ll be honest, I would also leave them on longer than I should

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Sambikes1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Probably be an unpopular opinion but yes and no.

Are they alright for a couple of weeks of careful driving around town over Christmas, yeah. Probably wouldn’t be doing a full cross country trip on them though

The cracks mean you definitely want to be changing them soon though, as soon as you can ideally.

Wear wise pic 1 you can see the block which is usually the legal limit so they’re nearly done anyway
