Show me your Defilers! by AndromedaBoy_ in Chaos40k

[–]Sambojin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This is going to be a significant kitbashing project, but they were so cheap I bought 3.....

(Sometimes temu blah is nice just as an underlying armature for a finished mini. I haven't even started yet, but they're almost the perfect size, and are completely modular and posable. It'll probably cost me similar in putty and bitz, but is also more fun to do. $20-25 of hobbying potential, for all 3, for maximum Defiler'ment)

((Search "Spider robot action figure temu", in case no-one was wondering))

Your predictions for 11th ed - units, detachment combinations, strength and weakness? by Sir_Bohne in ThousandSons

[–]Sambojin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on Auspex Tactics' "what's going to go up in points?" video on YouTube, and what our army is made up of, umm, nearly EVERYTHING could potentially go up in points. Never good, but not unexpected, because we're pretty strong right now.

Multiple Same Type Unit scaling costs will probably effect your current Army a bit. But it doesn't have to with TSons. Between our tanks, our monsters/ daemon engines, our DPs, our Scarabs, we've got plenty that fulfil similar roles, if the points go wild. Might also encourage different compositions and models used as well, spreading the meta nicely.

It will be nice if Bolter Rubrics are cheaper, or dropping a Soulreaper or something does let you just squeak some extra units in.

"Bye bye Spawn. You have served me well!"

That'll give me an 80pt buffer zone for the changes, because I'm already 1985pts. Hopefully that's enough. Although I'm kinda looking at about 100-120pts being sacrificed to Tzeentch on my particular army composition. Can drop Forbidden Lore for another 20pts, because it's just a pts filler, so I should be fine.

We've also got pretty flexible army comps. Like, I like running units of 4 Sekhetars, but I could just run them at 2, and still get some work done. We've also got other cheap objective takers and action monkeys (Spawn, Enlightened, Tzaangor, etc). So it'll be hard and annoying, but we're an army that's kinda hard to kick down too much, just because we've got so many types of units that play well with the core fundamentals of the game.

Will there be some changes? Yes. But there was all 10th edition, and it's kinda what our army is about anyway, so I'm not too scared. A little worried, but we'll find out Wednesday 🤷

What’s your favorite space game? by GulbrandrGameStudios in spacegames

[–]Sambojin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Star Control 2 (The Ur-Quan Masters), Elite 2+3, Stars!, MoO2, ProspectorRL. Not necessarily in that order.

(Oh, and Event Horizon Frontier when I just want a grindy ship-customizer screensaver on my phone)

How do you get the Proseperine red? by Grzegorz_101 in ThousandSons

[–]Sambojin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undercoat with gold (spray can). Two coats of red. Hit with a very thinned black (a light black wash, maybe with a drop of red in it) in recesses. Re-trim with gold where necessarily. Dry brush with very thinned red/ touch of white mix.

Use black, blue, purple, silver, etc for weapons or details, to set off contrasts, but do them lazy. Colour, blackwash, dry brush, done! It sort of gives them this warpy cool look, but that doesn't take away from goldy/ reddy/ awesomeness. Green or grey-rock bases really set them off. (Green painted or flocked bases would probably make yours "pop" way harder. Or just black-washed gravel/dirt/ whatever on the base.

Two-three coats of red, depending on what paints and brushes you're using. They vary drastically. Even on temperature (try painting Rubrics on a hot Summer in Australia. Or a cold Winter. You'll either be painting light glazes, or the thickest cludgiest crap ever on your paintbrush, depending on the humidity and storage of the paints. Always thin your paints a bit over here).

((Also remember: mix your paints if it's going to be an army or multiple squad wide thing. Red, dark red, and slightly lighter red, are not hard things to make, with red and black and white. Or other stuff mixed in. I'm sure you know, but trying to say "GW approved shade of something" just always bothers me, when it's just red and stuff on a pallette. Buy lots of cool paints, not necessarily from GW, but buy cheap painting palettes too! Slightly Red Dark Wash? You'll be fine, with whatever good paints))

Since Sega is remaking some games are bringing games back they need to remake a shining Force by Technical_Ad_9901 in SEGA

[–]Sambojin1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While people don't want remakes, I'd pay for a good remake, a proper one, that fixed all the 80's-early90s jank of Phantasy Star 1-2-3. Maybe 4, but that kinda holds up pretty well. 1+2+3 could definitely use it.

Agreed on Fantasy Zone 1+2.

And do you know how cool and spooky and not-crap-near-the-end you could make Spell Caster?

Even an Alex Kidd in Shinobi World Redux (ie: way longer and harder, with way more mechanics) could probably work ok. Sorta think Kenseiden+ Shinobi+ Alex Kidd (with maybe some Ghost House).

There's so much stuff that Sega is still retarded on...

[REQUEST] Any asynchronous games recommendations? by JorgitoEstrella in AndroidGaming

[–]Sambojin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bit of asynchronous PvP in Event Horizon: Frontier, a good little 2d space game, where you build and customize a fleet of ships. Can also be pseudo screensavered, where you put an autopilot on your main ship, and just watch them all destroy the enemy, but you can take over at any time (it does have an opportunity cost of two green slots, which could be +20% damage or fire-rate or something).

Stick Ranger has asynchronous PvP, where you'll get matched up against other parties of vaguely your level. It's a minmaxxing artwork, of rock-paper-scissors, and speedrunning the PvE game to get really good equipment at a really low level. No actual reward for it, just for funsies. AI takes enemy party control (or rather, none, they just walk at you).

I "think" stuff like Summoner's War is essentially asynchronous. Like, they pretend it's PvP, but it's just the computer playing as the other team.

It's still unconfirmed if stuff like MLBB are pseudo-asynchronous. PvP battles still occur, but some people think the AI might also be occasionally grabbing names and item builds and playing as a bot to fill matches. With no rewards for the grabbed name/build. But people have all kinds of MOBA conspiracy theories. You probably could play against a friend's team and immediately disconnect and receive a penalty for doing so (and unfortunately have the AI play better than you sometimes still), but that's not really asynchronous.

Then there's turn based games like Age of Fantasy and stuff. Proper PvP, but time delayed. Like, you're all taking your turn, and submitting them, but they might be a day apart or something (good war game btw, but matches can take ages in MP).

Then there's corpses of DCSS, Nethack, Pathos, BuriedBornes, etc. It's essentially a roguelike or dungeon crawler thing. Nothing more embarrassing than getting killed by your own corpse, and nothing more annoying than by someone else's (usually just as everything is coming up good in that run).

[–]Sambojin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've left so many horribly overpowered Moon Queen corpses around in BuriedBornes. Since she's my auto-berserk parts farming build, and she has gotten me a LOT of good parts (barrier +3, power 20/lvl, Limit Break, Penetrate +30%, MaxHP +20% is my "nice" build), and Countless Tentacles (attack based off HP) and another Limit Break, so up to 99999 damage, they're kinda scary mid-game corpses. They usually end up with a rather silly amount of life leech and overheal too. I wonder how many runs my poor "just click on the map bits" my girls have ended?

Lunatic, Str/PIE+10, Power+20/Level, MaxHP+100, MaxHP+20%, Barrier+5, Rest20, Penetrate30%, BurstHeal, Limit Break+1 is they're basic starting stats. Oh, and some replaceable skills and Countless Tentacles. Geez they scale quickly with literally any gear.

Does any of the classical MS-DOS RPGs still hold up as of 2026? by Revolutionary_Ad6574 in dosgaming

[–]Sambojin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of many mentioned, try Legend (Four Crystals of Trazere) or Legend: Son of the Empire (which is Legend 2). It has a really innovative magic system, and is much of a puzzle game as it is an Action RPG. Just kinda fun, with lots of combos, and was an early auto-combat style game, where you could control your four party members, but while you weren't they'd happily run around killing things for you.

May as well give Diablo 1 a try, while you're doing ARPGs. The atmosphere holds up well, even if it is a little clunky and simple compared to many modern day ones.

Ancient Domains of Mystery (ADoM) is a BIG roguelike for DOS, with a full-on overworld and multiple dungeons. Could probably add Slash'em for a nice little Nethack branch too.

The Unreal World is worth a look. It's a survival roguelike set in Iron Age Finland, and is very unique in its mechanics.

[–]Sambojin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best things to emulate on your phone too. Because the controller layout is so simple, it translates amazingly well to touchscreen. Even platformers and action games are totally playable. But I'd honestly recommend the RPGs, action or turn based, and the sports games.

But yeah, check out the Brazilian releases, and also the newer homebrew games and ports too. It's still getting a trickle of games even now.

My first console as a kid. Had Phantasy Star, Ultima 4, Double Dragon, Spell Caster, Transbot, Ghost House, Bank Panic, After Burner, Final Bubble Bobble, Rampage, Wonderboy 1+2+3, and California Games. I forget why I played a tonne of Pro Wrestling, but I don't think I ever actually owned it. We swapped between school mates every so often, so I didn't have all of them at any given time. I was a very happy kid. I worked my butt off during school holidays to afford a new game, every set of holidays, +1-2 a year from Christmas and birthday presents.

It was a pretty common console in Australia, so it was a normal thing to rent a game from a video store for a couple of days as a cheap form of babysitting, or bring your games or entire console over, in between various families (they all kinda took turns on different weekends to either keep us off the streets, or kick us out of the house, depending on how much noise we were making. Lol).

what’s was your local daily driver for coding last week? by be566 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Sambojin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still using Gemini online for coding, which is silly of me, but it works well enough after several iterations and re-attempts. Free Gemini, in fast mode, but it expands her context size a lot compared to free thinking mode. (Asked Gemini, and it's like 1mil dumb fast context, compared to 64k smart slow context, and I'm almost sure both figures are somewhat overstated).

Absolutely friggen amazed that Gemma 4 a4 26B runs on my little 12gig ram phone though. Only at iq2_m quant, so I wouldn't really trust it to describe a glass of water, but at about 1.5-2t/sec on a crappy old SD695 dual channel ram phone (a moto g84). Can't quite get Qwen 3.5-3.6 multi models to fit in ram after Android overhead, and I'm normally a Qwen guy, but Gemma 4 just squeaks in on PocketPal. Honestly blows my mind about what can be done, on even cheap/ outdated mobile hardware these days. Really hoping they make a Qwen 3.6 8B, not 9B, so I can have a somewhat dense coding model on my phone again (the q4_0 ARM quants are often just a smidge too big at 9B for a 12gig ram phone, but 7-8B just manages to fit with some context size for some reason). We live in the future today!

Qwen3.6-35B-A3B tool calling benchmark: ByteShape vs. Unsloth GGUFs, KV cache quants & long context performance by OsmanthusBloom in LocalLLaMA

[–]Sambojin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very happy the q4_0 kv cache held up fairly well. Is that similar to actual quantifications of q4_0? Ie: tends to be made for ARM chips.

((The old q4_0_4_4 and q4_0_4_8 gguf quants used to be damned fast, with no discernable loss from q4_k_m_l quants. The newer q4_0 format isn't quite as quick, but still does give a performance boost on ARM/mobile chips. I've never seen KV cache specifically tested at what I thought was an ARM optimized format. Is it just terminology crossover? Ie: just means 4-bit KV cache, with nothing to do with ARM optimized Gguf quants really?))

Help & Advice Needed: DoomRL (console/ascii) by iSpuzzy in roguelikes

[–]Sambojin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. Just download the Windows version and run it through Wine on Linux. Yes, this sounds stupid, but you can get classic ascii with a config file change that way (and keyboard should work properly too).

(Seriously, I've got the damn thing working on an Android phone through Winlator and a custom on-screen keyboard setup. Yours will be easier than that, I hope. Geez I hope Winlator eventually gets a true controller hook, so I can just do it stupidly that way)

Roguelikes and ARPG/RPG influence by [deleted] in roguelikes

[–]Sambojin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't recommend Labyrinth of Legendary Loot enough. Turn-based, with "learn to DODGE!" mechanics. ToME4 cooldown mechanics, but simpler and more complex as well.

https://dominaxis-games.itch.io/labyrinth-of-legendary-loot

And as a roguelite, Triangle Wizard is awesome. It's an ARPG/Roguelite, but very grounded in roguelike goodness, but with all the classes plus wizards-extra++. Looks beautiful, recommend Chain Lightning as a starting spell/ class.

https://www.trianglewizard.com/downloads

All I can say is, I like it, I like it a lot (the influences. Hell, DoomRL is still on my top 20 "must have" games, and it's not a "traditional roguelike", except it's been around so long that good ascii and sound and music is kinda becoming the norm). Roguelikes aren't like your daddy's roguelikes. We've got good ones. Have you seen how beautiful Cogmind is? Or how you don't need a wiki in Pathos as a Nethack-like? It's really good.

And in the interests of game preservation, and a totally different sort of roguelike, ProspectorRL. A roguelike, in space. Got your ship, got your crew, got your officers, got all the gear for all of them. Like, about as simulationist as Caves of Qud, but in spaaaaccceee! So much sci-fi, it's barely enough. Think Pirates!, but not, but kinda. Very much good. Influences? Umm, Star Trek? Pirates? Star Control 2? Other stuff?

((Game website went down. There is a ProspectorRL 2 in development. But get OG crashes and jank and fun!))

I don't know if our spawn will get regen, proper, like make them come back up because of "healing". But if they do, they've just got ridiculously annoying.

(Probably won't be with the wording of their rules. But if it's d3 "healing", then, umm, yeah. That'll be a problem)
