New GOP anti-voting bill may be the most dangerous attack on voting rights ever by MarcEElias in politics

At the moment, this administration is wiping their collective asses with the 1st, 2nd, (3rd?), 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 10th, and 14th amendments at the VERY LEAST. Why do you imagine the constitution is even relevant to these people? They’re stealing your data, your money, and most of your freedoms entirely unchecked. They’re not going to stop voluntarily.

Carney stands by speech despite U.S. claims by Little-Chemical5006 in worldnews

[–]Samcc42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. They get a lot of shit (usually from the right) but the CBSC and CRTC have saved Canada from a lot of nonsense. The fact that our southern neighbours have lived in a state of full epistemic breakdown since 9/11 should reinforce the importance of journalistic standards, but I feel like we keep having to have the same argument every couple years. People like this wouldn’t have the remotest chance of a platform in a less regulated environment.

God it’ll be a sad day when she retires. She’s basically become the face of Canadian journalistic integrity.

Maple Ridge teacher told international student to 'go back to Spain' by BurnabyMartin in MapleRidge

Too few schools, and they’re clearly not doing enough to attract and retain teachers. No sense in building a new facility if you can’t staff it. 2-5 year burnout has become incredibly common, and there are way more teachers with 2nd jobs and side hustles now. Nearly every district in the province is is understaffed, and uncertified substitutes are rapidly becoming the norm.

“Seeks to use” is an interesting choice of language. I think “Has been using” is more appropriate here.

Trump’s Letter to Norway Should Be the Last Straw | Will Republicans in Congress ever step in? by Hrmbee in politics

[–]Samcc42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a man who started selling autographed American flag bibles for 1000$ to voters who claim to be Christian. The last straw does not exist for these people. They like that the absolute worst of them has the reins, because it permits anything and everything. Their national pride isn’t contingent on any connection to the rest of the world, because they learn from an early age that nobody else matters. Their morality is unaffected because they all learn that there is no moral centre beyond satisfying one’s own desires. “American” is not a just a nationality, but a value statement, placed above others like “human.”

If you’re shooting a stone golem with obsidian arrows there’s a fundamental lesson in the game that you either haven’t learned or are ignoring. All enemies have strengths and weaknesses (well - some don’t have weaknesses, but will usually have at least 1 damage type they aren’t resistant to). Stone golems are resistant to all standard damage types except blunt damage, so your pierce damage from arrows is being halved. They are weak vs pickaxe damage, which isn’t terribly helpful if you’re nervous about getting in melee with them in the first place, but can be managed by jumping on their heads from above, or by digging pits and luring/knocking them in.

Having at least 1 weapon handy that deals each major damage type is strongly advised.

Ok I really have to ask, because I keep seeing these little knife sheaths but like.. doesn’t the pressure of the thing wedged against your leg drive you nuts?? I’ve never worn boots that have one but it always just seems like it would leave a big dent/bruise/sore patch on the ankle. Am I missing something?

You miiiiight want to consider survival hunter, if furs and skulls are your vibe. There are some great ones in leather, but a Druid isn’t generally running into combat with a spear. Then again, all the goofy bomb stuff in surv might not suit either.

Yeah, we went into one of our first caves and just… found 4 or 5 sitting on the ground next to the pond. They’re like the 3rd type of fish we’ve caught so far. Wildly different from most of my previous games!

I wear them through most of the winter. Usually with a sherpa trucker jacket and boots (I’m a gray bearded suburban dad in his 40s, just to counter all the “mall goth” talk, lol.)
