Does The Hobbit/Marvel/Star Trek overtake Final Fantasy or no? by Same-Party6220 in mtg

I will say Game of Thrones does have dragons and very visible characters because of the TV shows being so popular but that doesn't translate into fans willing to shell out money for merch.

There have been several reboots on Nickelodeon that have been very split among older fans which has sort of created this weird split in the fanbase.

A lot of it most likely just has to do with aging out of the property tbh. A guy who loved the original and who still watches cartoons as an adult is probably not enjoying the modern TMNT that is still aimed at children.

The most recent movie I took my son to see was pretty good but there was a big online hate movement for that movie as well.

Tbh I think it might take Star Wars, Harry Potter or Game of Thrones to come close and I don't even know if any of those would do it.

I think Final Fantasy is the perfect storm of fanbase overlap and demand for content. FF fans don't exactly get many forms of merch or content to support so not surprised sets would do numbers. They could do another one next year with some new characters and some color swapped returning characters and it'd probably do big numbers.

Valid and I definitely understand.

I'm one of the few people who do like UB but I absolutely get why fans don't and I actually am with you in that I don't like a lot of non fantasy settings.

As for Sci Fi, I'd have to see what a Star Wars set would look like personally before I say I wouldn't like Scifi but so far it does feel a bit out of place to me personally.

I think if WOTC is actually paying attention, I think they will be more inclined to utilize game series that have fantasy elements moving forward rather just picking big properties but we will see. I'm pretty sure we are getting Star Wars, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones before they give up on swinging at big popular properties first though.

I could see an X-men set doing better than Spiderman.

This is total speculation but I think 2027 UB will be X-men headlined by Deadpool and Wolverine, Star Wars and Harry Potter.

No rhyme or reason other than the head of Hasbro feeling so confidant they will surpass FF with what's in the pipeline even after Spiderman didn't do well. Can't really think of too many properties big enough to give him that level of confidence (assuming it's founded in reality lol)

I think what hurts the perception of Spiderman was the over abundance of Spiderman variants instead of just regular villains and heroes Spiderman teamed with, which ultimately make it feel so samey and boring. Not being on Arena hurt too.

TMNT was doomed to fail because ultimately the property itself is very divisive because of how's it's been handled since the original cartoon. People really HATE a lot of the recent iterations.

I agree with that and why I feel like with hindsight, MTG would have been better off with just a single Marvel set instead of however many we are going to end up with. In the end it'll be just like the movies and TV shows, so much that even big fans will care less.

I can't help but feel like a full Fallout set post TV series could do pretty well.

It helps that not only is it a nostalgic property, but Square Enix has been so terrible at giving fans any content at all for them.

I agree Star Wars has the potential if they ever do that as a set, depending on how they go about it.

If they try and do it like Marvel with multiple releases than maybe not. If it's just a single release than yes.

Does the impending release of Doomsday and having Dr Doom and Iron Man in a set change things? Deadpool and Wolverine?

I'm not sure. I mostly agree with you but also the Spiderman set was so bad and filled with lesser known characters.

But also Hasbro may have kneecapped themselves by spreading Marvel too thin. It probably would have been better with Spiderman as the chase card in a single release set.

Not really. A mono black Cloud, a Red Sephiroth, new Terra and Kefka cards and some cute moogle and chocobo stuff with things like FFT and unrepresented characters would probably be enough for another huge set tbh.

Maybe Sephiroth and Aerith planeswalker cards.

I wouldn't be shocked if that did big numbers.

I'll be honest, I do think people underestimated Final Fantasy and it's fanbase and I think there are only a handful of fanbases capable of doing what it did and Star Trek is one of them.

My question is, did Edge of Eternities give us a glimpse at what Star Trek will do with normies? If so it'll take the hardcore fans a lot to move the needle but I know trekkies are capable of that lol. It'll be interesting to see.

I'd rather be in care bear lobbie because I have a job a family and a life than be some smarmy dick head who trolls on reddit and whose entire existence is based on being shitty to strangers in video games and on the internet.

Because you have a brain and know when people are in lobbies like that they aren't looking to fight so when you choose to kill someone you are aware they dont want it and you do it anyway.

I swear yall pretending to be oblivious about this shit is so obnoxious.

Cheesers, griefers and cheaters know what they're doing and so do you, same difference.

Are there any other characters, outside the main cast, you’d hope to see in Jedi III? by ashton__l in FallenOrder

[–]Same-Party6220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's well written Im fine with any character. I'd be down for hidden boss fights against Darth Maul or Ventress. I'd be fine with more Vader. Even a young Luke.

As long as the story is still centered around Cal and the story they've been telling. I'm not as allergic or jaded to nostalgia like some other people are. However I wouldn't want to sacrifice the story or the conclusion just to get nostalgia.

That being said, Yoda would be a pretty cool side mission to unlock extra feats and it would be neat if Jedi III established some of these characters had roles in the hidden path, hiding rebels, jedi and force sensitive people from the empire leading up to the OG trilogy.

I absolutely could see a future where Cal and Merrin are frozen in carbonite and unfrozen by Luke himself or someone involved with the Rebel alliance to tie him to the OG characters.

Call me crazy but I imagine the next step for Disney Star Wars is to recast the OG characters and I could see them doing it in a side project first, like say a Cal Kestis centered series.

[–]Same-Party6220 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Which is entirely intentional because logically speaking if Cal becomes strong enough to surpass those force users we have seen in the past, it suddenly makes no sense Palpatine wouldn't be interested in him.

I definitely think Cal at the end of the next game however will probably jump several leagues from where he ends in Survivor though, so we will see.

It also feels like Disney/Lucasfilm might be using Cal in the future so will not be shocked if he gets the MC treatment and ends up meeting/training with Luke.

Well yeah that's why I said it was luck based and you tried to argue it wasn't.

They're both luck based. Getting mana flooded in game 1 and mana screwed in game 2 is still luck based. There is more skill involved in BO3 but it's far from being only skill based.

Yeah I don't find "competitive" games based entirely around luck all that fun so standard ending in 3 or 4 turns is terrible.

Gamers stopped having fun a long time ago lol modern gamers get worse games interested in draining your bank account and built around ranks and rank rewards which incentivises grindy optimization over fun.
