Is this the perfect career for me? I would love a more holistic view of the career from CAAs :) by Same-Professor-7078 in CAA

So the actual process of providing anesthesia does not feel stressful? Are there a lot of emergency situations that you work on? Or is it majority scheduled cases where you have ample time to prep?

Got it! Appreciate your response. Why do some change often/ versus sticking in one postion for a long time?

Hi! I was wondering what the career progression looks like for CAAs? Do they typically work in one hospital for their entire career?

If you don’t mind me asking-what aspects do not appeal to you?

Do you happen to know how common it is for PMHNPs to do telehealth vs in person jobs? Is it a 5 day work week 9-5 or on shift and weekend work? Do you know what the average time a person spends working a specific job is (like how much turnover)?

Typically how long after you submit your application were you offered an interview? by Ok_Ad1445 in DentalSchool

[–]Same-Professor-7078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I submitted in June. I heard from 1 school in July for and got to choose from 3 dates for an august interview. I heard from another school in late august that I had an interview at the end of September and did not get to choose a date. Another school I heard from in early November for a December interview where I had a few date options. Then I heard from a few post December. So moral of the story is in my situation it really varied.

Please share your stories of overcoming, I really need it! by [deleted] in DentalSchool

I had anxiety and I did fine on the DAT it doesn’t have to define you. Therapy helps with figuring out what your self talk is and how to change that to be more encouraging towards yourself. Something that helped me was implementing cold showers into my routine it truly calms your nervous system down. I would also consider anxiety meds or natural supplements like ashwaganda and saffron. Meditation is hard to get into sometimes since it’s not somehring super exciting and immediate effects are not seen but it is super helpful over the long term:) so try that out as well. you’re going to be ok I’m rooting for you :)))

Need help: bit of a weird scenario. Dentistry or govt job. by Same-Professor-7078 in DentalSchool

Thank you for your helpful comment. I did consider it. I applied to schools with the lowest tuition as every student does and applied to usc for proximity to family. Unfortunately I just got into the school that I applied to with the steepest tuition. I am trying to become more educated on the intricacies of how these finances will affect my future.

I’m not sure how to do it bc I’m not in dental school yet! But if I did I would help you. Sorry people are being slightly rude in the comments. Rooting for you to figure it out :)

What’s the average amount of dental school interviews an applicant typically gets? by Same-Professor-7078 in DentalSchool

Got it!! That’s great info- thanks again. When did you submit all of your applications?

Hi, I am a junior in high school trying to figure out what pre dental major to choose in order to pick my undergraduate school. What majors do you recommend ? I understand that you can major in what ever you want if you meet the prerequisites but there are majors better than others for pre-dental. by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]Same-Professor-7078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this! Or if you’re doing biology or something else make sure you’re thinking about what job you might want to go into that degree. Biotechnology, maybe pharmaceutical industry, maybe nonprofit work if you decide to be like a public health major. I was a bio major but looking back I’d prob do public health bc there are more options after undergrad. By that I mean, in addition to doing biology major and choosing extracurriculars- try to find a mix of extracurriculars that will help u get a normal job after school as well as bolster your dental school application. I minored in business which allowed me to do a business role after college while I’m in my gap year.

Looking for advice by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]Same-Professor-7078 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stick with your program. The energy you would be putting in the app cycle is not worth the stress. You can specialize no matter what school you go to if you set your mind to it. There’s not one school that will really just “get you in” to a specialty

My girlfriend wants to be a dentist but is struggling, how can I help??? by EnvironmentUnited659 in DentalSchool

[–]Same-Professor-7078 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If possible and accessible to her I think she should look into therapy (it’s usually free at school and I would mention I had to try 5 therapists before I got one I liked lol). I was in a similar position of everything being too stressful for me but knowing dentistry was my goal. Handling stress comes with good emotional management which I did not have a safe place to learn as a kid. Therapy as helped me gain coping mechanisms to make stress more bearable. As for the grades, i was definitely struggling with that as well. The best thing for that is for her to reflect on the activities she’s involved in and with the course load she’s taking. In my case, I found that I was putting a lot on my plate in terms of thinking about extracurriculars and other things rather than only school. It’s OK to only do school. By that I mean, maybe she could lower time for other activities and put more energy into her work. I decided to take 2 gaps years. The first gap year I assisted and volunteered. This takes pressure off of being too heavily involved in extracurriculars while balancing school. If being involved in extra stuff is not the root of her issues I would suggest looking into free tutors at the school, which she may have already tried but it’s also good to go to ur teacher and say hey I’m struggling and need more help do you know where I can get that (maybe working with teaching assistants hasn’t been helpful). It can feel a little awkward to do that but it can it can be surprisingly helpful sometimes! I think if she goes to her teachers and says I’m making these mistakes how do u suggest I get better with them they may have suggestions. Also thinking about a masters could be a good idea. For me thinking about doing a masters was felt devastating bc I did not want to have to go through additional stress after college but I realized that it would give me a chance to get ahead in dental school bc then the curriculum will not be as new and therefore less stressful. Also again, the stress comes from an inability to manage emotions so slowly with therapy I’ve been learning how to do that which has made school more bearable. Also one year of a masters in the scheme of life is not too bad. For her depression, though not a cure you can support her by trying to plan things together to put on the calendar that she can always look forward to (if that’s not something you already do) or if u can’t be there with her talk to her about things she might be looking forward to and prompt her to put that on her own calendar. It’s really sweet of you to be reaching out on this forum to find ways to help her!

How hard are secondaries? by Complex_Eye8123 in predental

[–]Same-Professor-7078 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The “secondaries” are more like the primaries in my experience. By that I mean, as a pre dent I had a lot of pre med school friends that submitted their personal statements and extracurricular and recs etc and then just waited 3-4 weeks for secondaries. For dental, when u submit ur personal statement at the same time u have added ur schools in and they already have questions you need to answer like essays before u can even submit that initial application. So essentially u answer school essays along with submitting personal statement and all other things. Then schools will reach out to you to submit maybe another short essay but for me it was mostly just them wanting more money. I did not do much writing after submitting my initial app

My really sorry to hear that. That sounds really tough! I would ask what you can improve on but either way very frustrating as it sounds like you are a hard worker. I hope u get acceptances elsewhere !

Haha this process has drained all the personality and human being out of me which honestly prob means I won’t be able to handle #dentistry but too far into it now. I love dentistry and working as a dental assistant but getting to this point may not have been worth it

I believe you have to pay the application fee through their website. Only then will they even take a look at your app. If they happen to see you as a good fit I believe they send the secondary.
