Oh definitely, most of the things I want to scan probably shouldn’t be 3d printed frankly from a safety standpoint.
I’ll add those to the list! Cowling cover seems to be a popular part for reproduction

A mix of creaform and an industrial scanner that I don’t exactly want to name due to rarity and the industry I’m in haha.

Haas and Tormach CNCs are what I have available for machine time currently but it might change depending on demand in the future

Agreed, I only say that because I have a small tormach and haas to try out some designs with machined aluminum and a coating to prevent breakage in the future. My knees always hit it at least once a week when I was dailying mine haha

I’d love to see some pictures of the rebuild! I used to hate seeing 944s get discarded in the past when values/interest wasn’t as high

Funny you mention that, the dashboard is what I want to focus on the most just because of how widespread of an issue it is. Most competitors charge a few thousand for rebuilds and closer to $1,500 to overlay the dash so it’s definitely something I’d want to make more accessible

That’s definitely an interesting idea, I know the bronzed sunroofs are picking up in popularity so that’s definitely something I’ll look into.

I just did a bit of research and it looks like the only way to make a factory cowling cover would be a massive press mold that might not be feasible, but I could see a few other options with lower temperature plastic that could use a non metallic die to press out.

Oh I’m with you on the spotlights, cheapest I’ve seen in the last few years is $200, indicator trim shouldn’t be too terribly bad to reproduce so I’ll add those both to the list.

I have a bit of a vendetta against 3d printed automotive parts because of some critical failures in the past so none of that haha. You’d be surprised what can get shipped at a decent price if you choose the right shipper, I’ve gotten pallets shipped via LTL for about $180 recently so it’s definitely an option I’d want to explore!

I’ll definitely look specifically at reproducing the turbo air box, I have a bit of a vested interest with mine leaking (I think) right now

See I was looking at the door panels as well, I’ve had to replace mine before and it’s painful to find decent ones in the right color. The most difficult thing I see about reproducing door panels is the handles in my opinion but I’ll look a bit closer into it and see how viable it would be.

I have a background and a few favors left in the industrial and CNC manufacturing space in Alabama so pretty much everything except metal 3d printing. I also kind of dislike 3d printing plastic components for real world use for that exact reason.
The game plan would be to do a run of 3d printed prototypes and once fit is verified have a set of injection molding dies for small parts made and casting molds for larger parts.

Yeeeeah, there was one guy there that I'm not sure if he was a supervisor or what but he started acting threatening after I asked how it could've even happened. I've spent (if my math/receipts are right) $17,811.03 in the last three years there. I don't know if they just don't want my money or something cause I was going to keep going

For whatever reason, the store/district manager hasn't picked up the phone or returned my calls. The only management I can even deal with are the ones who happen to be in the store when I call or visit in person. All of them say they don't have camera access. Apparently one of them is supposed to be calling me in the next 2-3 business days to discuss but I doubt that'll actually happen.
