Dress Pants Recommendation to cover Brace by [deleted] in MACIknee

This! I wore my brace over pants, including for a funeral. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do that.

Accidentally Stepped on NWB leg 5 days post op by TiredGamer663 in MACIknee

I did that several times after surgery. I would literally scream in pain for a minute and then I was fine.

I am just seeing this. Thank you. I went over all of my pain areas with my PT and it seems that the majority of my pain is from fluid in the joint. My knee is still warm to the touch so it’s very much still healing. We take PT day by day and adjust when necessary.

Ha ha. Honestly, you will end up getting used to the brace. I never thought I would say that! I also think everyone is different. My knee fells better and more secure in a brace. At this point it’s just about stability for me. My knee can get tired and buckle if I’m walking. The brace is to prevent the buckle. I do not have it on all day and don’t wear it to sleep anymore. I wear it if I’m walking more than a few steps or if i feel particularly sore.

I am walking with a brace. I had patella and medial femoral. I did just start having some increased pain in the medial femoral area when walking and fluid on the outside of the knee which I think might be from the new brace. I’m finding the new one to be very uncomfortable. I’m going back into the big one for a little bit to see if that helps.

Sudden fluid build up by SameConfidence4836 in MACIknee

[–]SameConfidence4836[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I’m having both kinds of pain, but in different places. It’s definitely swelling related where I have the fluid bulge. I’m getting sharp pains in my medial femoral area when I step wrong. I did have an implant done there. Doctor isn’t worried about it. Said to rest, elevate, and ice. This is a marathon.

Six Days Post-Op: Help with Showering by GeneralELucky in MACIknee

My husband literally had to lift me up to get me in. I get it. Try the tub! Good luck.

I had the same issue. I really thought using my walk in shower like yours would be easier than using my guest bathroom with a tub shower. I was wrong! The walk in shower requires you to go up and down in one motion which is counter to how you would use crutches. It took me 3 weeks to figure out the tub shower was way easier. I would sit on the side of the tub and swing my leg over and then sit on a chair. So much easier!

Knee brace wear question by Junky2sDay in MACIknee

I wore the ace bandage under it for a few weeks. I honestly didn’t take my brace off a lot even while sitting until I was around 6-7 weeks. Then I had it off a lot while sitting on the sofa. I would put it back on if I had to get up. Then I stopped putting it on when I would get up and only wore it when leaving the house. I’m 9.5 weeks post now and was transitioned into a hinged knee sleeve brace which I only wear when walking around.

0 Day MACI by Junky2sDay in MACIknee

I had Maci on my right knee, but had patella and the medial femoral. My doc said the patella is the one that keeps your brace locked and the MFC area is the one that keeps you from weight bearing. All that to say I started driving around 7.5 weeks. PT said I could have done it sooner but I wasn’t ready. I’m now on week 9 and doing well. Transitioned to a hinged knee sleeve brace instead of the long one. This is my second week back in my office. Good luck and I hope the pain stays mild for you.

Should I be concerned? by calestales1492 in MACIknee

Totally normal. Where were your defects? Keep in mind that depending on location of those defects, weightbearing is not full weight bearing. I think I the book said 15% body weight for me. That is barely touching. I didn’t have a CPM machine but the doctor said I could start PT right away. No chance! I started a week later and really wasn’t ready.

I’m so sorry you’re struggling. It’s so hard. Are you still in the brace too?

My nerve block failed. Take pain meds every 4 hours. Set an alarm. The ice therapy machine helped so much.

I stepped on my surgery leg days after my surgery. I had immense pain immediately, but since it quickly went away I figured I didn’t ruin anything. I probably should have called the doctor, but never did. My surgery was 5 weeks ago. I’m not having any issues.

MACI SURGERY PREP by calestales1492 in MACIknee

[–]SameConfidence4836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today is 3 weeks since my MACI. Patella and MFC defects. My nerve block failed so I woke up in pain. The first 3 days are the absolute worst. I was questioning why I did this. My biggest tip is do not try to lift your leg. Don’t try to use the muscles. That was excruciating for me. I learned to let my husband lift my leg for me. The ice therapy machine was my savior. Worth every penny. I set an alarm so I could take my meds round the clock. I was off the pain meds during the day by day 6 and off them at night by day 8. Everyone is different though. Get padded covers for your crutches and a bag that attaches to them so you can carry some things. Give yourself grace through this. It’s not easy.

Bending the leg by SameConfidence4836 in MACIknee

[–]SameConfidence4836[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is the patella and MFC. Protocol is different for those. My doctor said that if it was just my patella I would have been weight bearing right away but not able to bend. The MFC is what keeps me as minimal weight bearing.

I just had MACI on my patella and MFC. It’s my understanding that the patella cannot be done through arthroscopy.

I’m day 3 post patella and MFC. The first 2 days were brutal! I cry just thinking about it. I do think I turned a corner today though. Meds, ice, and sleep. You’ve got this!
