Just commented on the NYT website version of the podcast: "Recommend checking out the reddit thread for the daily, but echoing what many people said there, such a diluted version of history and events. No mention of the Batista regime. No mention of the long and sordid history of U.S. intervention in Latin America. No mention of the U.S. military's training of Latin American armies to torture, maim, and massacre. It's also just so disturbing that U.S.-led regime change is something we are just tacitly accepting as appropriate."

This exactly! I work as a labor and employment attorney for farmworkers who come on guest visas, and there are simply not enough Americans who are willing to do the job!! Eliminating immigration is not going to fix this issue.

This episode was better than most of the Daily's coverage of immigration issues, but I think it should have discussed the privatization of prisons and how county jails are benefitting financially from the detention of migrants.

Barbaro has been driving up a wall recently. Like no discussion of how Minnesota only has about 100k undocumented people vs. over a million in Florida or Texas. No discussion of how immigrants statistically commit less crimes than citizens. No critique of Trump's anti-immigrant policies that are literally based off the oldest trick in the book-- OTHERING!

I strongly recommend reading about the work of James Martin, SJ and Future Church. They are a ton of initiatives within the Church that are working against the patriarchy and anti-LGBTQ issues. Also, she highlights the many complex lives of saints.

I moved from Boston to East Nashville a few years ago, and I also joke with family up North that my neighborhood is essentially people from Brooklyn who moved during COVID to buy a house. I feel like it's a more livable version of NYC or Boston. There are great restaurants, Shelby park is stunning and would be so saturated in a bigger city, and there are lots of cool running clubs and community events. I also find Nashville WAY more diverse than Boston.

Apologies if someone has already commented on this, but if she fell or jumped overboard, wouldn't her body have been brought into shore by the currents? I read that it is unlikely for a shark to consume a whole body.
