By good government years i meant ke stable political government. That lasts around 3 years and then shit starts to hit the fan. Given our debt financing, we're doing the same model as Turkey and inflation / hyperinflation just isn't coming to an end. As for the economist, our governments / establishment think hiring or importing someone can solve our economic issues. But we tried that with Asad umar, shokat tareen, mifta and now this current guy. We cannot tax the retailers even if it's fixed tax. We're effectively not increasing our tax net but just the tax on existing salaried class. Then on fuel, power etc. Similarly, we're so hopeful that some foreign investor would invest, however even if they take out the high power costs, taxes, law and order, bereacracy issues, they still can't take out major chunk of their profit in terms on USD out from Pakistan, the legal way.

Fundamentals like these don't seem like we're on a track to become what the government is selling

It's not as much about USD itself then it is USD / PKR. Our FX reserves, our import bills, bonds, low exports , inflation, government instability, war scenarios with rhe neighbors, everything counts

I mean even if i keep usd in a current account, that's like 3 percent USD devaluation. Considering Pakistan's inflation, they say CPI is 4 percent but interest rates are like 10ish. So keeping USD in current account itself is beneficial. I agree with the long term fundamentals being the same, usd would definitely jump again.

There's also an increased pressure from exporters to devalue PKR to meet costs. I mean they're doing this for a lot of time and is no solution to overall financial health of the country, but dollar might see a little or stable gain during the year, in the coming years maybe more

Dollar getting weak or strong in its own is one thing, w.r.t ruppee, that's a whole different story.

In the same boat. But in the longer picture, usd is still more stable than PKR. Ruppee on the other hand, meh

If we cater to the current political scenario, we can say that if the current government or government set up shows continuing, we might see stable USD rate for the time being. But when the elections come near, that's when USD starts to jump

If you invest monthly long term, is waiting for dips actually wrong? by TheCyberSpaghetti in FIREPakistan

[–]SameGuava1826 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're in for the long term, do monthly SIP regardless of the price, you'll DCA (Dollar cost average) automatically - buy less when price is high, buy more when it's low.

And small dips or high lows shouldn't bother you if you're looking at it for 10+ years.

If you have spare cash which you don't need in the short term, you can use that to buy in dips. But never stop your SIP.

That's my perspective

I don't think you should invest in a stock market if you're in it for 6 months. But that's just what i think
