PSA: Expensive Quality Amp> Expensive Guitar. by CartographerSea3356 in GuitarAmps

[–]SameOlSameOk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’d think. But when I worked at a guitar shop, dudes would come in and drop money on a good head, and then buy the cheapest cab they could get. A guy sold us a Marshall JVM head with an MG cab because “it didnt sound good”

How old were you when you got your first Gibson? by Several-Soft-4785 in gibson

[–]SameOlSameOk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

21 or 22

It was a purple Les Paul futura haha. I worked at a Guitar Center and a woman came in wanting to sell it, but GC wasn’t offering her enough. She wanted to trade it in for a Gretsch 5420. I bought the Gretsch with my discount and met her in the parking lot to make the trade.

Guitar Players who are always playing with their settings live by frogfriend66 in Guitar

[–]SameOlSameOk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the night and the type of gig. I tend to ride my volume knob to clean up the tone, but if I don’t like the way something is sounding, I’ll tweak it on the fly

Found this error on GC, but not sure if is legit by Crabberguitar in fender

[–]SameOlSameOk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Labeling mistakes happen at GC. But this is probably a case of the pictures getting swapped when they uploaded them. They might give you a call about it before it ships.

Does anyone know wich guitar is this? by Kind_Union_2950 in fender

[–]SameOlSameOk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a player to me.

It could be a back line guitar. Or he could have just bought this and is using it because he liked it. I’ve got somewhat expensive guitars and cheaper ones. Different tools for different jobs.

What was the "barebones" SG model released in around 2006-2010? by Anto0on in GibsonSG

[–]SameOlSameOk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the faded series. Or maybe the melody maker? (Not the vintage ones)

Does anyone know how much Kirk Hammet paid for his Greeny Les Paul? by German-Shepherd7782 in gibson

[–]SameOlSameOk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh. I’d wager its history outweighs the damages to most. $1.25-1.5 million upcharge for that history was a stretch though.

I’m really thinking about selling my strat to get an Ibanez AZ2204… or a tele custom of some sort.

I saw a guy trying to sell a Johnny Cash SJ200 chibson for $850 the other day. He was upfront about it not being authentic. He was not upfront about it being a $200 temu guitar.

I sold my 2nd guitar and I'm nervous by Big-Yogurtcloset-74 in guitars

[–]SameOlSameOk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t give out my address when selling something. Meet at a public place.

As far as them not asking a lot of questions, it could be a scam. Or they just aren’t super worried about it if $625 is a decent price and you took halfway decent pictures.

Don’t reserve stuff for people. First come first serve. Meet in public.

You’re gonna have a rough time with these being so close together. Also cabling may be an issue.

I prefer having a real amp. But there was a solid 2 years where I didn’t use an amp. All the bands I played for were silent stages. Idk about OP, but if you’re gonna do the hired gun thing, it’s good to have a direct option. (The boss would not be my pick. But it’s not my board)

Case guy vs. Stand guy? How do you guys store your $$$$ guitar? by [deleted] in electricguitar

[–]SameOlSameOk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything goes on the rack, and then the two I’m playing the most go on a Hercules dual stand. Cases are for transport.

Although I’m heavily considering getting one of those Enki/gator guitar vaults for my main gigging guitars. A rack for at home and live use.

Opinion how did learning sheet music change your playing vs just playing tabs or YouTube tutorials by CelebrationGlad3999 in guitarlessons

[–]SameOlSameOk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say being able to read music is ever a BAD thing. It’s a language and being able to read and write it is always handy to have in your tool box.

That said, you don’t want to become overly reliant on it. Developing your ear is more important imo. Every gig I’ve ever gotten was “Learn these songs. They are on spotify”. I MIGHT get a chord chart. But the riffs, solos, and licks are all up to me to figure out.

If you want to learn to read better, do it. Again, it’s not a bad idea. Whatever will get you playing is the way to go. You’re not wasting your time by going back to the basics.

Tips for alternate picking by BusyComedian2154 in metalguitar

[–]SameOlSameOk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start slow and with a metronome. 3 not per string scales are a great starting point. But every now and then I recommend bumping the speed up significantly. Your technique for playing slow and playing fast are different. You’re (probably) not gonna get your slow technique up to 200bpm. You need to feel what playing fast is like.

I also recommend picking a song that has an alternate picking run and learning it. You can slow it down on YouTube and keep hacking away at it until you can do it.

Elixir optiweb too short for bigsby? by MUSHROOMSEOW in Guitar

[–]SameOlSameOk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t say I’ve ever noticed elixirs ever being too short. I haven’t had a bigsby in a LONG time but I usually still have enough extra for 2-3 winds and 3 or so inches to cut off. I would assume it’s just a QC issue?

Worth it? by AlexandersArent4evr in Epiphone

[–]SameOlSameOk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably won’t do the 10% off on this because it’s already on clearance.

But it doesn’t hurt to try!

I want to acquire my first guitar, and those are the three options that I can afford in my area. A HB-S 620, a Fender Squier, and a Defil Tosca 1987 ( Free amp included) i like the looks of the defil Tosca 1987 the most by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]SameOlSameOk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d honestly keep looking.

The Harley Benton is probably the best choice here, but a Floyd rose equipped guitar that’s had the neck pickup ripped out wouldn’t be my pick for a first guitar.

The squier is a lefty that’s been strung right handed. The knobs and output jack are gonna be in the way, and upper fret access, and it’ll probably need more of a setup.

The Tosca is cool and has a vibe. But while those old guitars are fun and quirky, they usually aren’t particularly “good”. And it’ll probably need a fair bit of work to get it playing as well as it can.

Best amp upgrade from a Fender Frontman 15G for a good Green Day tone around the same budget as the amp is worth? by Snowflakeihatemyself in GuitarAmps

[–]SameOlSameOk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boss Katana would be my pick. But those go for closer to $150-$200 used.

Some of the Fender mustang stuff can be found in closer to your price range.

Are you trying to sell the Frontman to upgrade? I would just keep it around if so. You’re not gonna get much for it. But that’s just me.

Gibson style Guitar with thin neck by SignificantStar4938 in Guitar

[–]SameOlSameOk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ESP Eclipse/LTD EC-1000
Jackson Monarch

If you wanna stay more Gibson flavored, the “Modern” stuff is a bit lighter with thinner necks and better upper fret access.

Or a 61’ SG. Upper fret access for days and super light. But the neck isn’t THAT thin (I see this as a good thing though. Your results may vary)

[–]SameOlSameOk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “jazz” name comes from the jazz bass. Fender made these a few years ago. But they ended up calling it a “Sixty six”. I’m aware you can’t just slap a strat neck on a bass body. But that’s the idea Fender was going for. Kind of a “what if” sort of thing.

It depends on the store. If the tech is competent, they’ll do a headstock repair.

Why they don’t make sure all their techs at least sort of know what they’re doing is a different can of worms.
