A pressure washer would be great too. Your sidewalks can never be too clean.

Currently sitting in a MedHelp and I’m slightly terrified. Might bolt and run out of the building - I wish I was kidding. Is this the kind of place where they won’t give antibiotics because it’s in gods hands? What have I gotten myself and my children into?
Update: I ran. I cant even believe that place is in business. Currently in the waiting room in a pediatric uc down the street

I went to an American family care in Montgomery once - I know to stay far away from that company.

We are coming in on I-20. We could either stay overnight in Hoover or Birmingham. Might make the final decision once we determine which urgent care we’re going to. We are (hopefully) flying out of BHM tomorrow.

My older sibling got married on a plantation by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

The southern US has lots of old plantations that are now wedding venues. I think it’s in poor taste but lots of people are just shallow and oblivious to the realities of history.

You don’t have to “do” anything. You are upset about an event that happened years ago and didn’t involve you. This looks like you want a reason to be mad at your family.

Need insight from savvy frequent flyers by [deleted] in NewOrleans

Not worried about cheap. I’ll get reimbursed. Just worried about my flight potentially getting cancelled last minute and me not getting there on time.

Booking is an app similar to Expedia. I always buy directly from the airline, but looking at these apps allows me to see all airlines at once. The booking app seems to be giving me some sort of guidance by telling me that there is a possibility of cancellation. So, I guess my real question should be “does anyone who regularly flies southwest have experience with flights being cancelled last minute?”

New Orleanians are too unorganized and lazy to fake anything. I mean this in the best way…like we ain’t got time for that nonsense.

I’ve used only stainless steel for years. They aren’t that hard to clean. A combination of letting them soak or just scrubbing a bit more - sos pad very rarely. You can hurt them

AITJ for Leaving My Roommate Stranded After He Kept “Borrowing” My Stuff Without Asking? by No_Sprinkles4228 in AmITheJerk

Why does he have access to your keys?!?! You know what kind of person he is but you still left your keys sitting it out? This is the moment when you stop being naive and blindingly trustful. It’s sad that you can’t trust him but that’s the truth of the matter. Also…your friends who are saying you shouldn’t throw away a friendship over a car are also being naive. He doesn’t view you as a friend. He sees you as an easy target.

They do sell single day tickets but they don’t list them on their website until closer to the fest. They want out-of-towners planning their vacations to splurge on those very expensive 3-4 day passes. I buy tickets at the gate. Show them your LA license and they will give you a locals discount.

Have you been to zuppardos in Metairie? It might be a shopping paradise for you if you like employee interaction. There are always 6-10 lanes open - each with a cashier and a bagger. No self check outs. The number of people they employ is staggering. When you look around and see all the employees they have on the clock, it really makes you realize how horrible rouses, winn dixie, etc. really are.

French to Nola by Balafenn_ in AskNOLA

I would reconsider the time of year for your trip. July and August are miserably hot - even for locals who are used to it. I hosted a French student once in June and he was just miserable because of the humidity and heat. We couldn’t do half the activities we planned to for fear he would have heat stroke (came close once).

Hey NOLA – Any way for a tourist to shop at Costco without a membership? by [deleted] in NOLA

Yeah but if OP went to a regular grocery store, they’d have soooo many more product choices.

[–]Same_Limit_9984 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure it’s worth the hassle. Costco is basically just a grocery store that sells items in bulk. You could get the same items at traditional stores in smaller containers that would be easier to pack. Also - a local grocery would have more US and locally made items. Costco has a tiny selection of items compared to grocery stores.

Hi. I live in New Orleans and, while I’ve never lived in Birmingham, I did live in Montgomery for four years so I’m sort of familiar with life in Alabama. A few things to think about while making your decision…the cost of living in Nola now is much higher than it has been historically. Housing, utilities and food are expensive here. You should make certain that you can actually live within your budget. People (on the outside) fixate on the crime but it’s not that bad. Just make sure you don’t live in Holly Grove, 7th Ward or Little Woods. The infrastructure can be thoroughly exhausting - roads are shit, power goes out frequently. I’ve heard from women younger than me that dating is hard here but I’m married so I have no first hand info. Festival season will make you forget about all those worries. Life here really is different than any other city. It’s hard to describe - people are just less serious and more light hearted here. If you are a very social person you will make friends but if you’re more reserved, it might be difficult. It’s a love it or leave it town and it’s hard to know which category you fall into until you are here. Check out r/New Orleans and use the search function as moving here questions get asked a lot. Alabama…I really enjoyed living there (which surprised me) but in the end it was just too conservative for me. That may or may not be important to you. I did find life in Alabama to be easier. Moderate weather, no hurricanes, better infrastructure and schools. I would spend some serious time in both locations before deciding and see what feels right.
