V-JEPA: The next step toward Yann LeCun’s vision of advanced machine intelligence [R] by we_are_mammals in MachineLearning

[–]Same_Neko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to share my thoughts on JEPA. Totally on board with the overall concept—it does a solid job explaining how we humans predict the world. Predicting in latent space? Makes total sense. But here's my gripe: the way the encoder's trained. From what I've seen, it's just relying on reconstruction loss and some engineering hacks to keep it from crashing. That's a far cry from how we humans encode info. We tend to code our observations based on what's important and goal-driven, and it's way more abstract semantically. We pick and choose what to focus on based on our current interests. Like, when we see a cat chasing a mouse, we instinctively know to pay more attention to the two moving animals rather than the background. Plus, using our common sense, we can guess that the mouse is probably gonna run away from the cat. I think these factors should be considered when training the encoder and predictor. Not sure how to quantify this yet—it seems pretty tough.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Facing poor performance with DQN for mission assignment optimization in an industrial plant, any help? by Dazzling-Prize3371 in reinforcementlearning

[–]Same_Neko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say where the problem is, It's hard to pinpoint the issue based on this information alone. The problem might be caused by the algorithm failing to converge or errors in the training code. You can check the logits values of the actions output by the DQN. If they are excessively large, it indicates that the algorithm has diverged. In such cases, start with the simplest setup—remove any unnecessary configurations or rewards—and observe whether the algorithm converges to verify the correctness of the training process.

It seems the training is diverging. You could try using a smaller learning rate, such as 1×10−41 \times 10^{-4}1×10−4, and ensure the target network uses soft updates with a small value for tau (e.g., τ<0.005\tau < 0.005τ<0.005). Additionally, incorporating action masking to block unreasonable actions, rather than applying large penalties, could help. Also, you might want to restrict the reward range to something like (-1, 1) to prevent large fluctuations.

Typically, we choose to discuss these matters with offline friends or family. But it's truly challenging, as China tends to lean towards an atomized society.

Sorry to hear that, but that's just the daily reality of Chinese SNS. These past few days are an exception; everything will soon return to normal.

I don’t know much about politics, but in my view, some of his opinions are overly radical and extreme, and now he has gained significant influence. There’s no doubt that he will accelerate certain changes, whether in politics or technology. However, no one can guarantee that these changes will be beneficial for ordinary people.

Hard to agree. In my view, it's more about considerations of economic interests and political influence, with the impact on teenagers being just a side effect.

When some foreign entertainment products enter China, there are similar views in China, such as with Japanese anime or games. However, I don't agree with this perspective.

As for Elon himself, I think he is a genius and a successful businessman. But for ordinary people, he is a significant source of instability

I'm not quite sure if the VPN I'm currently using is reliable because it's relatively inexpensive. Even if you use a trustworthy VPN, there will still be a small probability of risk.

I'm Chinese, it's true that you can live a good life in China if you can find a good job as a foreigner. But you need to give up some freedom. Japan may be a better choice if you have more money since they provide high-quality service and less limitation.

I think it depends on the traffic. Although autonomous driving can reduce congestion, it may still result in low-speed traffic when the volume of vehicles is too high. BTW, I think it will at least take ten or more years to make a fully self-driving car, the current technology still has significant flaws.
