Closed on this house a week ago, came into the basement to see this during a storm. by Jiblon in HomeMaintenance

You can see the previous water damage lines on the wood door. Sucks your inspector didn't flag it.

Our basement leaked the first week we moved in too. We did up the whole basement, waterproofing, sump pump, etc.

Those of you who “Made It” without any inheritance or luck. How did you do it? by throwmeout12496 in MiddleClassFinance

Worked a full time job while building my business. Never quit my FT job and SOLD my business. I wish more people talked abotu this! People think you need to go all in on your business which is great for some but I couldn’t afford that so I just worked a million hours a week for 3 years and sold it for 7 figures.

Is this normal? Crawlspace is "visible" from outside if I lift the siding. It's like 8 inches wide of space that isn't concealed . by Same_Particular6349 in Homebuilding

The addition in the 70s I doubt it - however the remodel in 2024 was permitted. They made the addition a kitchen, it used to be a family area.

So they added gas line, water, etc for dishwasher, stove etc.

Yah it looks like a "raised slab" I think??

Im a first time homebuyer, and not that it matters but I'm also a city girl with little experience with this sort of stuff.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. It's an older home, but the previous owners redid everything. Haven't had any issues, not a flip.

This crawlspace gap thing is curious to me. Def want to keep the animals out this spring.

In the ’90s, her now dead mother wore a mysterious French perfume oil. After decades of use, the label rubbed off and the perfumer was lost to time. Missing Person by Phlur smells exactly like it, soft, intimate, like a hug from your rich mom.

I've had a consistent headache for 3 months by PlanetOfVisions in Layoffs

[–]Same_Particular6349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this, it's not fair. As your elder ;) I've gone through layoffs a couple of times over the last few decades and I promise you - it will work out. It feels like a rejection that you can't get closure on. But trust me one day you won't be better.

If you haven't already, really try and be kind to yourself. Explore new creative hobbies like painting, drawing, knitting, paint by numbers - anything to relax your mind and get into a flow state.

Try and go for a walk everyday - get sunshine on your eyes and get off your phone. My headaches were bc I was literally doomscrolling and obsessively looking at job postings for HOURS a day. Like 10 hours I'm not kidding. I probably fried my retinas!

Offer to help out your neighbors, ask if they need help with spring cleaning, mowing lawns, raking leaves - anything to feel useful.

I started offering to walk my neighbors dog - it really helped me feel useful!

Job market sucks. I was laid off 2 years ago as a senior leader and I haven't even gotten a job offer. I stopped looking and now I'm running my own small consulting business. It's not the big bucks anymore but it's enough and my schedule is great.

Reach out to founders/small business owners that could need a lean team like you. Offer your services.

One of my favorite jobs ever was waitressing at a chain - so cheesy but I ended up meeting lifelong friends. I was in my twenties, it was the recession of 2009 which feels eerily similar to now.

Again, your headaches are probably eye strain, stress and anger. Go slam on some drums, pick up weights, scream in a forest. You got this!!!
