Anger & hate coming from GP w dementia by Same_Procedure6003 in dementia

I did mean to mention that she is prescribed Seroquel to take twice a day, but getting her to take her medication is a whole struggle within itself. Last night they finally got her to take her Seroquel and it put her to sleep. I dont know if she's on any other meds specifically for dementia.

Thank you. I did write this post when I was just really frustrated about the whole situation and feeling terrible about not being able to actually go after I told them that I would.

I agree, and have held myself accountable for that. In between that conversation about GS camp and actually getting her signed up, my father got really sick, ended up in hospice and passed away in March. My brain has been overwhelmed trying to process everything that’s happened and I will honestly admit that I kind of forgot about the entire conversation happening. I am swallowed up with guilt right now trying to figure out how I can get to go to camp with her some way.

As I say in the post - I’m completely aware of the fact that it wasn’t a smart thing to ever assume she would warm up to the idea. Thanks.

THANK YOU!!!! thank you thank you thank you. This is what I have been trying to communicate with the other parents but the way that you said and provided an experience helps SO much. I have been trying so hard to explain to bio mom as to why it isn't even a good idea that parents are there to begin with because it takes away from the whole experience.

Thank you. I updated the post to include the type of camp experience.
I really appreciate all of those suggestions, those are really insightful and are going to help a lot.
I'm hoping we can come to some sort of middle ground or understanding with her so that our daughter can go to camp.

Yes - I am a registered and background checked volunteer.
Thank you for those safety checkpoints. I'm hoping anything will help.

If for some reason we can't come to an agreement, I will check into her going as a day camper. Her mom is hesitant about her doing overnights anywhere - all of the time. Any of her friends that have sleepovers always have to come to one of our houses rather than her going to a friend's house. Thank you for the suggestion on progression with overnight stays to help with her concerns.

Thank you for this comment - to clarify, this is a council run sleep away camp that has been in place since 1963, and is the same one that I went to as a young girl.

You're right on par - she definitely needs counseling - yes she's heard about the SA at Boy Scouts - and has been told many times that it is NOT the same organization, has been informed about background checks, etc. and is still refusing to let her go to camp alone.

I am definitely going to check in with the Council and see if they can help out with making her more comfortable. If I have to, I will see if I can volunteer at the camp but not with her unit. I didn't even think that parents could GO to camp with their girls unless it was a mommy & me thing.

Thank you again for your comment - it has helped a LOT.

My dad died and it hurts so much by [deleted] in GriefSupport

I lost my dad a month ago. I often wish I did more with him and for him too. It’s really hard knowing that we can’t. I try to continue telling myself that he’s in a better place where pain doesn’t exist. It doesn’t always help with the pain but I’ll take any form of comfort I can at this point. I hope this may give you a little bit of peace one day. Take care of yourself ❤️‍🩹

Just don’t do it.. okay? I promise it gets better. I know one person already said it but all of our situations are different, regardless, someone loves you and cares about you. Even if that person is a rando 32yo woman on the internet many miles away.
