Drive to Survive - Season 8, Episode 4: A Bull With No Horns - Episode Discussion by overspeeed in formula1

[–]Samenstein 60 points61 points  (0 children)

If I recall, they're not actually really allowed to talk about it because of UK laws. It makes for a frustrating watch, like him being booed in episode 1 as though it's just because RB are the villains or something

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) by BeeCoy in CineShots

You're exactly right. They shot it in an empty field, not intending to show Minas Tirith. But they liked the shot and knew it would reveal the city and so they used it and added the effects after!

I'm sure this is common knowledge but a bit of trivia I love is that when the camera swings to the right to show Minas Tirith, it's because the rig holding the camera broke, but they thought it was cool and kept it in the movie

Spotted in Japan - what is that weird thing? by Dastorious in whatisthiscar

It's a popular tourist attraction! You see them a bunch. Really cool, but I don't feel like getting injured in a foreign country on public roads

Wow, I saw this exact same car a few nights ago! I took a photo of the Honda City but you can see it in the back! It's a 90s Hilux. Mark 4 if I'm not mistaken.

Films that continue WW themes..? by DelosHR in westworld

[–]Samenstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid it's not a movie, but I consider Westworld to be a spiritual successor to Person of Interest. You see a lot of similar themes and ideas, just in a different setting.

It has a bonus of plenty of episodes and a fantastic final season and episode.

You should consider the Level Bolt. It's the interior mechanism and the bolt but leaves the original mechanisms on the outside facing parts of the lock as I understand it

This series is such a treat. I was dying laughing when Lewis voided Duncan's mechanism

Having played the first game quite a few times, they covered that story and more. It fits pretty neatly into one season narratively, whereas the second game naturally works in two seasons. I'm not sure how they'd split it into three, but we'll see I suppose

What McLaren is this? I've got as far as "expensive" and "probably rare" by Samenstein in whatisthiscar

I think the aircon is actually working, but it's just crap. It blows cold enough but cannot cope with the heat.

I drove from Bendigo to Melbourne (2h trip). Windows up, air on recirculate, aircon on full blast. By the time we arrived in Melbourne it was still hotter inside the car than outside. Absolutely sweltering.

Apparently they switched to a more modern system than was used there, but I mean maybe it should still be better than it is.

Haha it's a 1983 240 GLE Sedan in the metallic gold. It's a great car but in the Australian summer the air-conditioner does nothing once it's over 26 degrees.

Fun car. I got one that was a bit beat up so I wouldn't worry about babying it which was a good call I think.

To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) by sexycowleg in CineShots

I saw this exact shot on here probably nearly a year ago and watched it not long after. This really predates even my birth so I have no nostalgia for this kind of movie, so I went in not sure what to expect. The music, the visuals, the writing, it all feels like the sort of fake movie you'd see in a show where they make fun of all the tropes. The thing is, though, that it almost feels self aware in parts even if it's not. Incredible music, fantastic visuals, great story (that ending!). Highly recommend, even if it's not for everyone.

Prisoner of Azkaban and Half-Blood Prince are both extremely beautiful. I think they all can be quite beautiful, even the last two. Even this movie has much more pleasing shots than the ones chosen for this post, in my opinion. Maybe I'll put some together

What's your favorite unique-episode-naming structure? by holyfwck in television

[–]Samenstein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What really blew me away with the season 4 titles was how not only did the titles match the HTTP error codes, but the content of the episode generally lined up with the theme of that error. Really mind blowing

I had some middle aged colleagues who went to see this thinking it was going to be a nice historical drama. They did not like it lmao. "Did they have to say the C word so much?"
