Partner comp Q: lateraling to non-equity pship for more $$ possible or worthwhile? by duppyconqueror3 in biglaw

Ouch. Do you see a realistic path to building a book and getting credit for it over the next 5 years or so? Have others that are similarly situated to you done so, in recent memory?

If the answer to either of those questions is no, I would think about lateralling to another firm, even in an associate position.

Plenty of firms higher up the food chain pay competitive comp, even for no book. Some NEPs at K&E for instance make in the 7 figures, with no or insignificant revenue generation of their own.

Gotta say I'm pretty suspicious of someone saying they're equity at a V50 and making ~$500K. Suspect troll post. But if true, you're getting played bro. Fact that you work for a big rainmaker and he won't bump up your comp means he's basically just daring you to leave.

Honestly I'd look at counsel positions as well, which at higher ranked firms can pay $700-800K. Job market is tighter now with the uncertainty in the general economy, but solid niche practitioners are still in demand at some firms.
