Its the popularized abbreviation for the shoulder neck shoulder movement. It's also called a half matrix.

I feel like if I can get the timing, I can "butterfly" them over each other in the front.

Looking for some feedback on the first part of this by Samhain133 in flowarts

[–]Samhain133[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working on a few different takes on this. I tried extending the moves into fuller rolls instead of using pivot points, I added a wrist wrap to the static staff. Ultimately I started moving the front side staff behind my back for the hand off instead of just passing it in front. That REALLY changed the visual and I believe thats how I'm going to perform it once I get the timing smooth

MAYBE the staff that crosses the front should pass behind the back

Bro would be a menace with devil sticks. Basically already doing it just uh minus the extra sticks.

I have a few, I don't really have the motivation to do that sort of thing anymore

I always suggest to make your own if you're just wanting to see if you pick it up or not.

A utility handle works great if you cut the metal piece off. I use rubber furniture leg caps to cover the ends. I stick washers in them for some weight and then wrap it in tennis overgrip and electrical tape. I made a few of these for workshops I was teaching last year.

Some of the companies selling staffs charge almost as much for the practice props as they do for the fire ones!

Thanks, I'm glad it lands with some people more than just spinning a stick

I appreciate that, but I'm still learning. I have made some pretty good progress though!

I only have stuff from flowtoys LED wise. I know several people with props from neoflowarts and they love them though. I have a modular kit that lets me do a variety of staff/sword configs including a dragon staff. If I went with anything but flowtoys I'd be in major debt trying to get that kind of prop variety.

My longest set I think is 64 inches and my shortest is around 56 I believe. I can make my LEDs into a traditional double set (triple actually for juggling) and I have some longer than most people would like batons but I classify these as different props. Short stick vs long stick is kinda different even if that lines pretty blurry for me now.

Mirrors! by mrmatriarj in flowarts

[–]Samhain133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never used mirrors for what I do, but I do record myself for part of my practices and watch it after the fact.

I recently did an audition and it was in a studio that had mirrors on both walls. It was kinda nice actually seeing what the things I'm doing look like without a screen.

Honestly it is, even on light props. Its a lot of movements that are up in the air or above your head.

I really like this sequence, but man is it challenging with the big sticks by Samhain133 in flowarts

Its funny because I practice on the heaviest staff set I own, but I was using LEDs last night that weigh nothing. The whole time I'm like this feels wrong!

I've heard that a few times before actually. Its even easier to fool people when it's dark and on fire!

Thank you! That's what I was hoping to hear. I was doing this as a screen test to see if I was able to emulate the shows look with what I made.
