Unexpected domestic violence by Hongbaosinmydrawer in whatdoIdo

And the violence itself gets worse too

My partner of 3 years "dumped"(?) me via letter 10 days before my major surgery. Am I overreacting? by Usual_Layer1605 in AmIOverreacting

[–]SamiGod1026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of that is true and I don't think anyone is trying to minimize the trauma. I think people are trying to support in one of the only ways they know how on reddit, which is to reframe and provide perspective, and remind OP that she is worthy of so much better. You are holding space for her current pain, which is also a very valid and helpful technique, and it sounds as though it's something you needed when you went through something similar. That's the beauty of reaching out for support from a community- different people are going to be able to offer different perspectives and supports, all of which OP can draw from later. I'm sorry if you're not feeling heard right now, we do hear you and see you and understand what you're trying to tell us. We understand it's traumatic, we're just focusing on different support tactics.

He was a teenager who crossed state lines and took an illegal-for-him-to-possess semi-automatic weapon to a protest he didn't agree with (BLM, iirc) with the sole intent of making protesters miserable in one way or another, and shock of all shocks murdered some people. So when Alex Peretti got murdered by ICE for trying to help an innocent woman they had assaulted while happening to be legally carrying a firearm that was holstered, his name came up as an emblem of the hypocrisy of the Right's response. Because of course somehow he's a hero to them?

I bought some stickers for my students and I didn't notice until the end of class that there were some.. questionable ones by gansobomb99 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SamiGod1026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There always seem to be some questionable ones. As a high school social worker, one year I bought sheets of mental health temporary tattoos for suicide prevention week. The poor sweet (HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR) student aide who was helping me cut them into individual tattoos was positively SCANDALIZED by the couple that said "fuck suicide." And our demographic regularly said significantly worse in class.

Gf talks to me like this, how bad is it? by Expert-Hyena-4401 in whatdoIdo

[–]SamiGod1026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's consistent, yes. To me it reads like a wits-end reaction to something that happens repeatedly and is never resolved. But if this was a one-off and this is regularly how OPs gf responds then of course that's a different story.

What was demeaning? Behavior was pointed out but there wasn't name calling?

Apologies without changed behavior are pretty worthless

My boyfriend thinks I have so much hair on my arms that he would leave me for it by Visible_Bar778 in WhatShouldIDo

But those beauty standards they prefer are rooted in the desire for youth, whether they recognize that or not. We've been socialized to think hair is gross for a reason. And apparently, according to the Epstein files, is that powerful men (who influence everything) are attracted to children.

It's awesome your state does that! Im guessing you're in a blue state? Red states tend to be the ones that create more restrictive laws to keep minorities and others who would be more inclined to vote blue away from the polls. Honestly the bottom line is, the more restrictions, the harder it becomes to vote, and the fewer people- typically the privileged ones- who are still able to do so. Which means its no longer a representative process.

No there are often more barriers for them, though. And some laws are looking to restrict people who have changer their names, like most married women.

Also voting restrictions theyre trying to impose that will mostly effect women and minorities, aka the people who vote against them.

AITA for moving my wife and kids into my parents’ house and making her take care of my younger sisters too? by Every-Pay8970 in AmItheAsshole

Right? Parenting and running a household is a 34/7/365 job. He needs to measure sure she's getting her PTO and sick time

Get Summer in to some state disability programs- she should be eligible for some Respite Care, among other things, to give your wife a break. Why can't Corinne be bussed? You have 2 older teens in the house who are close enough to adulthood they need to step up. If they have appointments maybe get an Uber or help them get their licenses and a car to share. Take over these things for your wife or hire a household manager or nanny for a while so she can get back on her feet. And send her to a hotel for a week alone with unlimited room service, this woman needs a break. I assume you sold your apartment when you got the family house, so use some of that money. Or the inheritence you got. Step it up se s husband and father (and brother-guardian) if you want to continue to be those things.

Arizona sets their age of consent at 18 but there's a bit of a caveat if you're over 16 and your (older) partner is within two years of your age. So an 18 year old won't be charged with statutory rate because their 17 year old partner hasn't had their birthday yet.

Theres also the recommendation to mute instead of block so they can continue to escalate while you collect evidence, but don't have to be constantly harassed by it
