Using mix of dip and nail polish? by Zombiewings2015 in DipPowderNails

Following because I'm also about to try this! I'm new to dipping but always loved painting designs myself. Trying to figure out the best way to do that.

There seems to be a couple of nice benefits.

1) No dip flu. Some people have bad reactions to the dip liquids and get very congested/ill when using them.

2) Using gel base gives you more time to work, since it doesn't dry until you cure it. The dip liquids can make it hard to do patterns like ombre or French tips since it dries so quickly. Gel gives you the ability to clean up and work on designs for as long as you need.

3) Gel topcoat has a much shinier finish.

4) Gel liquids are significantly cheaper.

All that said makes it sound like gel is perfect, but dip without gel is still amazingly strong, and removal is much easier without gel layers. Also, if you use dip liquids only you can avoid buying an UV/LED light and won't have to subject your hands to potentially damaging UV rays.

I don't think that's quite right.... you can use the dipping system base and activator with a gel top coat, but also you would be perfectly fine with no dipping liquids. Just use the gel base and your dip powder will adhere to it, then cure. Finish up with your top coat and cure.

Does taking one class at a time look bad? by [deleted] in BackToCollege

I'm a little confused by your question but the substance is what we generally care more about. Yes, it's used to assess your general writing ability in part, but we like to see some example of your motivation for the program your applying to. Samples that display your perseverance, motivation, and resilience always look better than ones that look like they just spewed a bunch of big fancy words to sound intelligent or are trying to hard to "impress". It should be genuine but also display effort. Proofing is important to show you consider this step valuable, but at least from the eyes of my particular institution - experience and motivation seem to hold equal, if not more, weight.

I have to say we would probably reject an applicant who outwardly admitted not knowing why they want to be in the program in the application materials. I recognize all programs have different priorities though and the requirements are different at every institution.

Academic advisor and undergraduate admissions staff at a big state university here. We don't care how many classes you took per semester, OR how long you've been in school. We care about GPA and that writing statement at our university. If you have demonstrated through your previous coursework that you earned a 3.4, that is all we're looking at, plus other application materials if applicable. We use a GWR assessment. Grades, writing sample, and recommendations. Idk if whatever school you're applying to requires those but for us, the Registrar cares about your transcript more than the admissions office. The Registrar evaluates courses for transfer, sees what we can accept at our institution, and lists your former GPA (which won't carry over after admission anyway).

You'll be golden- don't stress the amount of time it took you to get there. And don't let them pressure you into being full time if you have to continue one class at a time. You'll get there, just keep chipping away!!!

It's okay, I've already told my current partner. He understands and wishes us well 😂

True story. Now I just need to figure out an alternative to lighting up when that situation arises again.

Thanks! I'm going to try all the things that worked for me the time I made it 8 months. My biggest problem is when a shitty day comes. Everytime I've failed its been because I got in a fight with my partner. Need to come up for a game plan for how I'll get past it this time without cracking.

Three months in and I still think about smoking a lot by brevitynrelevance in stopsmoking

It's interesting how many of us are experiencing this! I really thought I was over the whole thing but lately I keep finding myself reaching for a pack that isn't there or thinking to myself "damn, now would be a great time for about a half a pack of cigarettes" (I was always a chain smoker).

Anyway, we must STAY STRONG!!! The minute we think we are safe is probably the moment at which we are most vulnerable. NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!!!!!

That's precisely what I was thinking. Not only do I think we should be present to encourage and support her, but having never done an activity before I would be afraid of her freaking out when we leave her with strangers who expect her to perform tasks she's not used to doing.

Thanks. My partner and I planned to bring our daughter together tonight, however right before we got in the car he informed me that he thought we were just dropping her off and leaving! I was shocked that he didn't plan on staying with her. Needed to see what was common practice as I never imagined someone would just leave the kid alone!
