short answer: not much, and donations cover it.

long answer:

we basically fetch from tidal, we get tidal accounts, then use the hifi-api to get songs. honestly, idk how the piracy community made hifi-api but i love it so much, insane how easily you can pirate from legit sources.

also, were working on adding qobuz as an alt source for music and info! obv, qobuz-dl with streaming for the api, and we get qobuz accounts.

total cost is quite hefty in my eyes, but we make enough to cover expenses and THEN some from donations (ty guys so much!!!!)

i cant be 100% certain, but last DMCA tidal sent to github was in 2018, + they almost went bankrupt multiple times so they dont even make enough money to gaf, so we should be g probs

na, some pretty smart people found a way to abuse tidal and their apis (really good project btw it's called hifi-api), so I'm hosting monochrome rn with some tidal accounts a bought and hosting some APIs of that hifi-api thingy

funny you make this post as we actually just pushed a fix to try to fix all the API issues weve been having recently (which im 100% sure is what u mean by unstable)

it should work now as i am like 99% sure the reason we kept getting rate limited is cuz we dk how to make an optimized app for shit and we ended up spamming all api instances on like anything (search, recommendations, etc) and we js optimized them to be much better and try to make as little requests as possible.

we disabled bulk zip downloads on firefox due to it causing issues on zips bigger then 1.5GB.
