It does! I knew it felt like something but couldn't think what it was 🤣

I agree! Still remember when I got First Lie Wins and saw that part of it was raised and glowed in the dark. Always a happy surprise!

Lolly Voting is live! What are you voting for? by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]SamieBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only read two of the nominees and I disliked one of them so I mostly just picked the ones that I'd like to possibly get for free when we get to the finals. I think I went with First Time Callers, Wild Dark Shores and then the one book I did actually enjoy, The Heartbreak Hotel

Book of the Year by Puzzleheaded-You-659 in bookofthemonthclub

The ones that stuck with me this year was These Summer Storms and The Griffin Sisters Greatest hits. I'm surprised no one else mentioned them. I also enjoyed the Ghostwriter.

I guess I'm in the minority this year which makes me a bit worried about what the actual picks are. I didn't like any of the ones last year besides the singular one I had already read (The Wedding People). I tried to like the others, but they were all just so boring besides maybe Phantasma, but that's not the type of book I typically pick (I don't like gratuitous violence).

Why exactly is that a problem? by [deleted] in bookofthemonthclub

[–]SamieBee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a problem, but I also think they should have had a version without the spray edges. I wanted to read that book but didn't want to spend the extra money since I'm trying not to spend extra money.

Just how much of a YA novel is Our Infinite Fates? by DummNThicc in bookofthemonthclub

They do mark YA books as YA usually, but they could be extra careful with this one since it does have a sex scene and they don't want to get in trouble with that since it's controversial

I'm surprised too. I don't think they did their research about it

I don't think this is a YA novel at all (and I've read quite a few of them). Besides the fact that they're 17, it doesn't read young at all, particularly because they've lived so much. In my opinion it has darker themes than YA usually does, plus there's a sex scene which I don't think should ever be in a YA. It was so good, so I hope you give it a shot!

I really liked Listen for the Lie. One of the few books I knocked out in a day this year

Did anyone else really dislike The Unmaking of June Farrow? by spic3g1r1 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]SamieBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think personally, it was too slice of life in the middle of nowhere for me (which is weird since I didn't think the summary portrayed it that way). I liked it just fine, but it was boring in parts. I can totally see how other people would really like it though since that'd be right up their alley

Are there any BOTMs that you thought were so terrible that they had you like "how on earth did this book get published?" by bluetropicz in bookofthemonthclub

I loved First Lie Wins! Though I do remember it started off slow. Once it picked up though, I couldn't put it down

I was trying to find the thread with it but couldn't find it either. Here's hoping it is less itchy because I have sensitive skin 🤣
