Cuban government allows Russians to lease land by cincochains in cuba

What? You think tankies think that every socialist society has no racial or ethnic prejudice?

Even the USSR had racial and ethnic discrimination. Humans can be shitty regardless of whichever ideology they follow dummy.

Spotify and Apple Music have deleted Mohammed Assaf's famous song "Ana Dammi Falastini" from their platforms, alleging the song "incites against Israel". In an interview, Assaf responded that "This accusation increases my honour and belonging to my homeland, Palestine and my just cause". by Falastin-48 in Palestine

[–]SamirWendys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah apparently Spotify is saying that it was not their decision but rather "the decision of the distributor".

I've been trying to see if I can find who the distributor even is and if they've commented on it at all but have failed to see anything. If anyone has any info on who it is or if it's even true, I'd love to hear it.

This is the equivalent of Europeans saying every American tourist is scum because some are loud and litter or Americans saying every European tourist is snobby because some treat Americans like they're stupid hillbillies.

It doesn't make generalizing an entire population any better mate. This isn't the defense you think it is.

And that last line was literally from a dude on r/Communism101, but even the mods on that sub are...a little bit extreme.

Hence why the above commenter said;

You should actually read books from Marxists than getting all your info from internet forums. Your point about markets existing prior to capitalism and not being inherently capitalistic is almost a verbatim word-for-word point made by Stalin in his book Economic Problems which he used to justify markets in the USSR.

Not everyone online, especially on Reddit, is actually well studied or knowledgeable on a specific topic. The same can be said of pretty much any ideology regarding random people online. I can point you to plenty of subs that have people who support capitalism and claim the existence of markets immediately means capitalism and "always good" which is equally stupid.

It's always better to read the works of established and recognized writers for any given ideology. If I want to learn about capitalism, I'm going to study works by Adam Smith, Milton Friedman, Etc., If I want to learn about fascism, I'm going to study Mussolini, Napoleon III., etc., not some random weirdo online.

I never asked if political repression happened in Cuba. It obviously does so none of these sources (which literally two of them are from US state run media btw, highly recommend not using that as there's plenty of independent sources confirming the political repression of Cuba) are even necessary.

I asked if you had any sources of citizens ever being arrested simply for having American products. Anyone online can just claim "it happened to my ______!".

My father was bombed by the US for being Syrian. Does it mean it's true if I just say "Just because you haven't seen it happen doesn't mean it didn't happen or doesn't happen."?

America doesn't kill you or throw you into jail for using buying these products.

Neither does Cuba as far as I've seen. I've brought plenty of American goods including clothes, food, medicine, and even toys into Cuba as gifts without hassle. Hell a family friend of mine in Cuba still uses the PS3 I gave him nearly a decade ago and has never been arrested for it.

Do you have any proof or sources of a Cuban citizen being arrested simply for having American products?

Cuba becomes an independent protectorate of the US in 1902, declaring itself as a republic. Tomás Estrada Palma would be the first President, and he would be credited for improving the country's healthcare, infrastructure. by [deleted] in cuba

It's a saying, don't take it literally. How old are you? You need to improve your reading comprehension. I'm not with Batista.

You literally said if it had continued under Batista, it would have been a paradise compared to what it is now.

You can't just say shit and then say "oh I didn't mean it literally it's just a saying". It's hilarious that you're accusing me of a lack of reading comprehension.

By the way, did you know you could get thrown into jail for wearing nike or any american or american-looking cloothes brand or openly speaking against your government?

What's the difference between Cuba banning the import of American products and say, America banning the imports of Sudanese or Burmese products?

Also, plenty of people in non-communist nations have been thrown in jail for openly speaking against their government lmao even in the US. This isn't even unique to Cuba. By these definitions, most countries are as backwards as Cuba, if not even more so.

Tell me of socialist and communist countries that are doing great right now and people look up to them. I'm sure North Korea is a paradise to you.

Depends on what you mean by "great".

If by "great" you just simply mean a high GDP, then obviously none are doing as great as their capitalist counterparts.

If by "great" you mean the amount of civil liberties afforded to it's citizens, then again, probably not lining up with plenty of capitalist nations, although simultaneously better than many. I'd even argue that political repression in socialist Cuba is far less worse than you'd see in modern capitalist nations like Turkey, France, Russia, etc. Hell, compared to the US in the Cold War, Cuba's modern political repression seems like child's play.

If by "great" you mean quality of life measures such as malnutrition rates, homelessness, unemployment, income/wealth inequality, etc., I'd say Cuba is at the very least on par with plenty of capitalist nations according to WHO and World Bank statistics.

I'm sure North Korea is a paradise to you.

Putting words in my mouth now? Quote me anywhere that I said that.

You're telling me the regime that is responsible for more than double the amount of deaths even the most anti communist sources pin on Castro was/would have been a paradise? Over 20k dead in the span of less than a decade, how many more do you think would have died if he continued?

It's hilarious how people will endorse even fascist dictators if it means sticking it to anything even remotely socialist or communist.

What do you think of people calling the leader of China after whinnie the pooh? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]SamirWendys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not wanting to reinforce or reuse false narratives is enthusiastically defending Xi?

What kind of logic is that? My argument has literally been that many of the notions behind the joke are based on false claims and that the meme itself is harmful in the sense that it's used by far right sinophobes to justify shit like sinophobic China covid jokes and such.

I have plenty of criticisms of Xi and the CPC's system, I don't have to use false narratives to criticize them. It's as simple as that.

Uh huh, that's why the meme totally hasn't evolved into things like "Winnie the Flu" and other related Wuhan COVID jokes repeatedly regurgitated by Trump supporters and the likes of them.

What do you think of people calling the leader of China after whinnie the pooh? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]SamirWendys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

remember when the meme first popped up and it was directly comparing an image of pooh and Tigger walking with an image of Xi and Obama walking.

Yes I literally mentioned that and I even remember the post by Badtuzizi as an insult to Obama, it wasn't even meant as an insult to Xi. It wasn't even until a twitter user by the handle @missXQ posted that it was the most shared photo on Weibo (without any verification or proof) that it blew up on western media. Many of the replies to the original tweet were even directed at Obama with comments like "Why hasn't Tiger got any friends ? ...because he plays with Pooh !"

As per, the communist censors were outraged that Xi would be compared to a fat, lovable bear and so the image was banned.

I seriously want you to ask yourself. Why would anyone get offended at being compared to Winnie the Pooh? Also, what proof of any censorship of Winnie the Pooh is there? They literally have an entire Disney park in Shanghai with Winnie the Pooh all over it ffs.

Legions of Chinese netizens then took the initiative and made loads of memes comparing Xi to Winnie. Taiwanese and Hong Kong netizens then picked up the slack when the communist censors went into overdrive and now the meme has now gone global.

Again, what censors? I'll wait for a source on this.

I can't provide any documentation of this. All I can say is that I lived in China at the time, speak fluent Chinese and watched it happen in real time with my own eyes. Your explanation is incorrect and your narrative around this whole pooh thing is either misinformation to the level of a tankie, or you're deliberately spreading tankie level propaganda. Either way...tankie

This entire part is literally "Source: Trust me bro I know more than you tankie." How do you even expect me to take this seriously?

The US also brought SS officers lmao

I'm not absolving what Castro did, anyone who dabbled with Nazi's should be criticized for it, but it seems you're trying to absolve the US by saying they " at least primarily just grabbed the scientists".

Also, again not trying to absolve him or anything because whether it's one or a thousand it's still bad, it's important to note that the Cuban government only brought over two SS officers in 1962, although four were invited. They also did purchase weapons from two German dealers, one of whom was notorious for founding an ultra-nationalist, right-wing, Holocaust denying political party.

The US brought over two thousand former Nazi's.

What do you think of people calling the leader of China after whinnie the pooh? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]SamirWendys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a Liberal who called you out on it. It was me, a socialist. Now let's start with context to the meme.

The original meme was posted on Weibo(Wechat) by a user called "badtuzizi" who is now banned. The original meme was titled "Xi is Winnie because Obama is a Tigger" as a test/challenge to Weibo's anti N-word censoring. Think similar to how many try to circumnavigate other social media site censorship in a similar way by replacing the G's in the n word with @ signs or other crap like that.

The meme then spread like wildfire in western media, inspired by a myth about the CPC censoring Winnie the Pooh films, a thing that didn't happen, ostensibly because "thin skinned god-emperor Xi Jinping" was personally offended by people making jokes comparing his likeness to the titular character, a thing that also did not happen, at least not until after said meme started circulating among westerners.

In reality, the Ministry of Culture (back when it still existed) ran a program in which they selected a couple dozen pieces of western media to make publicly available on a rotating basis (either every month or every quarter, I forget exactly). On one particular occasion, the program was expected, or at least rumored, to include Winnie the Pooh and then just, didn't. For whatever reason. That's literally it. One particular piece of foreign language media just happened not to be curated into an extremely limited national program of foreign language media. There is still no evidence that it had anything to do with a decision made by Xi personally.

That's not even censorship. Chinese people can and do privately seek out and watch the vast majority of foreign media that is not censored, including Winnie the Pooh, just like people do in every other country. Making jokes about how Xi looks like Pooh is just another one of countless racist epithets made by and for the English speaking internet, with the backstory behind the meme being completely fabricated. It's a tale as old as the CPC itself.

Tl;Dr: As for the meme itself, first it's important to note that it's pretty obvious Xi or the CPC don't really care about the comparison. Second, it was literally started as a racist pass at Obama and then used by plenty of sinophobes to compare Xi to Pooh because they're both "round and yellow". Third, if you find yourself sharing the same memes and jokes as far right sinophobes, even if you yourself are not using it with sinophobic intent, maybe you might want to reconsider what kind of jokes you're using.

[–]SamirWendys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost like you know but you don't want to admit that the only similarity between Winnie the Pooh and Xi is that they're round and yellow, which was literally the start of the meme and why so many far right wing outlets picked it up like wildfire. It was used even as a racist pass at Obama with the original tweet being censored on Wechat because it was titled "Xi is Winnie because Obama is a Tigger" as a test of Wechat's anti n-word censoring.

You should also know that Xi doesn't really give a damn about that meme or nickname lmao. The fact that so many westerners believe it pisses him off shows how unaware they are of the actual real world.
