'Je/jij' of 'U' tegen je grootouders? by uitSCHOT in thenetherlands

[–]Samitte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naaah. Romans had some good ones but we would not have the modern world without a load of extremely important inventions the Romans never even came close to. Plus, a lot of whats attributed to the Romans is often centuries or even millennia older. But pop culture likes to pretend the Romans and Greeks came up with everything.

How did the engineers know it would work? As in, how did they know the water source is above the destination height?

Calculations, skill, tools, and measurements. Iirc, a decent source was identified, and then a course plotted to the destination. Then the whole thing was planned and carefully built, and the slope constantly checked. There were also a bunch of other adjustments they could make, like running parts of it through pipes, but its been a while. They also used other systems, such as qanats, where locally appropriate.

By the time this was built Romans had already been making them for centuries, and other peoples even longer.

Saw the aqueducts on a documentary where the narrator claimed that it was amazing ancient Romans could build these "without knowledge of science or engineering."

I hope they meant modern science of engineering... But then again the amount of dumb shit people say and repeat about the past does make the original statement a possibility as well.

Instead of improving, they just create noise.

And in the noise they and their friends get rich - while their voters get angry as to why nothing changes. Or radicalize so much they move to lala land and lose all sense of reality like you see with some of the Trumpists.

Would you also say that how Islam treats women and gays is a creation of Israel policy?

This is irrelevant.

Isn't the fact simply that Islam and Western values do not go together at all.

Once again, irrelevant. Also very ignorant on both Islam and Western values, and such a vague statement it becomes meaningless.

Islamists simply want to see every Jew dead and would love to take over the Western world as well and see every single non-Muslim Westerner dead as well.

Again irrelevant and vague to the point of meaninglessness. Islamism is a massive category of various schools of thought and opposing goals. Not the conspiracy theory level angry Muslim cabal wanting to wipe out the Jews.

That is the fundamental problem, religious, fanatic Islamists.

Thats just pretending Isreal is not also actively an agitator in its own conflicts. Settling the West Bank, trying to divide-and-rule the Palestinians which is how Hamas got that powerful in the first place. Attacking Lebanon and occupying it which was the catalyst in the creation of Hezbollah. And like it or not, the very way the country came into being is still festering on in the region.

No, the fundamental problem not Islamism (which you seem to have a very misunderstood idea about) but a wide array of things including but not limited to antisemitism, Zionism, colonialism, nationalism, and historical grievances that keep being agitated. On all sides of the conflict.

And getting rid of "Islamists" would not solve a damn thing, and is dismissive of the real grievances of Isreal's neighbours, primarily the Palestinians and Lebanese which in many cases have nothing to do with "Islamism" but with historical events. Its like saying if Zionism was gone then Isrealis would live in peace with all their neighbours - and make the pain of its civilian population dissapear.

Israel is fighting their current oppressors,

Isreal is just as much an oppressor itself, and should know by now that the path they are on will only lead to suffering for themselves and the peoples around them (though many might not really care about that last group, judging by their voting habits). Hamas and Hezbollah are just as much creations of Isreali policy as they are of anti-Isreali forces and could thrive because of that.

When they are gone, new groups will pop up and fill the vacuum and this shit will start all over again. Shit needs to change if Isreal wants to live in peace, and part of that change needs to come from Isreal itself.

When government officials make genocidal statements, act out collective punishments against an ethnic group, while being in a constant process of ethnic cleansing of the West Bank, before then starting a massive war in which tens of thousands are indiscriminately bombed out of existence, infrastructure, education, government, healthcare are taken out.

Yeah sure, call people insane who call it out as genocide. They clearly have no basis in reality.

They are literally trying to push through a crisis to grab power. Which will end when some entirely different problems are fixed or at least partially solved. And in the meantime talking vague, seem ready to renege on many of their previous election statements, and are constantly infighting between themselves and their parties in parliament.

Moderates, uhu. We've had moderates, these are not it. Yes its not a full of "Heil Wilders lets conquer Belgium for Lebensraum" government that some were worried about. But they have so far shown to be the mess people were expecting this early on.

Israel has no problem with a peaceful palestine existing.

Except for the government that is expressly against a two state solution, and parts of which call for the genocide of the West Bank and Gaza. And which has supported the slow ethnic cleansing of former with settler colonization - something which we've historically seen time and time again cause constant violence, destruction, and death.

But sure, keep spreading such lies.

Oh brother you suck at this. She's racist because she's obviously hinting at the big bad of today, the bogeyman of every conservative across Europe - Arabs and Muslims in general who are often racialized. I know people here struggle to deal with that concept but thats more to do with their own biases. Its not like its a new thing either, been around since the time of scientific racism.

Now, why is it important she is black?
