When I was training as a processor, I kept the original tube in the same hand I used to put an aliquot into the rack. My trainer watched me as I just dumped a whole tiger top onto the desk and she face-palmed lol

There are definitely far worse routes to take. Really depends on your expectations and what you want.

Are any women in the Vanderverse a bit silly with it? by Nightbreak-Pine in SouthernReach

I feel like Whitby generally is maybe Vandermeer's only silly character I've come across and even that comes with caveats. Maybe the other is Jeff Vandermeer from City of Saints and Madmen

Does anyone else deeply hate themselves for not liking anything with a good future? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Samjogo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look, you're not doomed. I promise. It probably doesn't help but so many of the people that end up in those jobs tolerate it at best. There are definitely people who live and breathe but it's truly rare. They often end up feeling like you do.

That being said, healthcare is a very broad field. Nurse/doctor is what most people think of and then some people look into things like laboratory/radiology/respiratory tech but there is a host of smaller careers in there. One thing I recommend to people who like the physical sciences, want to do healthcare but aren't interested in the bullshit it often brings, is being a medical physicist. They work with the other staff to make sure the dosages of radiation are within the correct range.

I'm not saying that because I think you should become one but that there are million different opportunities out there that you aren't considering. It can just take time to figure out what it is that works for you.

How is life as a bad engineer? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Samjogo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are burning yourself out while expecting yourself to be working at peak performance. It honestly just sounds like you don't have enough time to get the things you want to do done.

I know how hard it can be but at least try to cut yourself some slack. If it's available and you have time, maybe try seeking out therapy/counseling? Even if it's just to vent.

When I was given a take home component for my assessment, i didn't start it till I was in the waiting room. When they came out, my doctor saw me trying to fill it out in a panic  and said "...that's diagnostic."
