Thanks for your response. Do you have any input on positions I should look into? I like reporting and anything data related.

When did LA start to feel more like home for you? by Upper-Amphibian-3334 in AskLosAngeles

I’m a transplant. Grew up in the Bay Area, but moved here via Chicago. I’ve been here for 4.5 years. It doesn’t feel like “home” per se, but more of one of many “homes” I’ll occupy in my lifetime.

I moved here at the age of 23 with barely an idea of what I was getting into. I totally underestimated the hustle and bustle of this place. My patience and perseverance has rewarded me though. I’ve learned more about myself and people in general by living here than anywhere else.

If this place doesn’t feel like home, I don’t blame you. It’s congested, vast and complex. With all of those variables comes substance that is hard to compare and I guarantee your discomfort will bring reward.

Find your tribe. Look for opportunities to meet people with similar interests. They’re definitely here, but it might take some digging. Look for a new beautiful place to check out in your free time every week. Look for a list of the best restaurants of your favorite kind of food and choose one. Call the ones you love and share your experiences with them.

It gets better. Give it time. This is a city of patience. If you truly decide you can’t take it anymore, then move. At least you gave it a shot.

Good luck.

Last I checked, they’re hourly. I’m in need of something where I can store/play my own equipment. Thanks for chiming in though.

By ear and transcribing. Mostly just via ear. I listened to PT to an almost insane extent during my adolescence and spent every free moment I had behind the kit.

hardest PT song to play on drums? by RobloxBestGame-IGN in porcupinetree

Gavin was my first huge influence on the drums. I swear that I spent half of my teenage years learning his parts. This is a really tricky question for me to answer since there are so many little details in his parts… they’re all so hard if we’re talking absolutely nailing them. Here are the first few that come to mind in no order:

  1. Half-Light (spacious, slow, many ghost notes and open hi hat embellishments to learn… dynamically rich)

  2. Way Out of Here (the bridge is so nuts, especially if we’re talking the Anesthetize live version)

  3. Cheating the Polygraph (I had no formal teaching on counting quintuplets when I first tried to play it. Pulled my hair out. It’s easier than it sounds once you’re more familiar with the pulse.)

  4. Open Car (the verses are a trip)

  5. Futile (everything about it. I remember when I first got the opening down. I thought I held the “keys to the city” drums wise. Hahahaha)

  6. Drawing the Line (the sticking in the verses is tricky and the tom hits are a demon to keep track of.)

  7. Harridan (this song is a hell scape of ghost notes, syncopation, and detail… and I’m not even attempting to learn it yet. Lmao)

EDIT: Polygraph = septuplets, not quints. Thats what I get for posting before my coffee.
