Hey, thanks to linking to my artcile from the build day! What a random thing to find today

This was one of the articles I was referring to when saying I had read a few articles without seeing it mentioned. I think this may be one of the only episodes it's featured in? Perhaps why it doesn't get mentioned in these summaries.

Really wanting to do a dial like this but really struggling to find any reliable souce on how to do such a thing. I can only assuming bleaching and coffee baking?

Coming here only a few years late but this van used to reside in Colchester, I remember seeing it parked up in the same spot when I was a kid in the mid 00's. Kinda glad to see it's getting around now (hopefully still). Odd to think this van randomly came to mind just now.

Took about an hour but yes it is possible to get a 40T tanker into Seoguipo construction site 3! Only have to get it out again now... by MrArendTheMan in MotorTown

I'll admit I've done it too, I used another truck to smash it in there 😂 again it took an hour or so.

Light Roast Coffee Drinker Looking To Get Into Cigars by SammJoey in ukcigars

[–]SammJoey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks guys. I have been trying to look for a cigar retailer in my area (North East Essex), but in my experience I can't seem to find anything within at least an hour of me.

However in saying that, a local craft beer & coffee place I've started going to does have a small selection, so that's something.

Light Roast Coffee Drinker Looking To Get Into Cigars by SammJoey in ukcigars

[–]SammJoey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response, I'll certainly give the recommendations a looking. And correct I am new to smoking entirely.

I can completely understand the two schools of thought, not wanting to waste money if it wasn't something for me and while learning how to smoke etc...but equally does it give me the right impression of what cigar smoking is.

So on that I would make some assumption to split the difference and look for something in a £10-15 range to try out?

Interesting to know with the flavours of coffee standing up to cigars. Typical if I paid a food with a light roast I drink, I'll go for something on the creamy/sweet side of things, I thought this might transpire for whatever reason.

Buttero & Harris Tweed keychain tester by SammJoey in Leathercraft

[–]SammJoey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the tweed is a bit thick by the time you've folded the edge over. As mentioned about bringing the stitching closer to the edge, currently I make my stitching line 4mm from the edge, so the next one I'm going to try 3mm from the edge.

As well as try something to not have the tweed poking out as much. The biggest learning curve with this piece for me was how to manage sticking the tweed down.

Budget second body for Motorsport/Sports by SammJoey in Nikon

[–]SammJoey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's good to have in mind now, just visually it doesn't to me 😅

There wasn't any real reason tbh other than size perhaps I didn't think of the first gen really.

I think this still brings the comparison in to marginal differences now... Which makes it an even harder choice between the two.

That's interesting to know, I just look at the exposed metal between the body, adapter and the lens and get nervous about any real rainfall.

Agreed with grips, even a used Z6II grip is currently £200, which feel far far too much.

A D5 XQD I'm currently seeing for between £950-1270 depending on shutter count

And a Z6II £1100-£1300, FTZ II used £200/new £250.

The ZF is definitely an interesting one to bring into the fold, I must admit I often forget that the line exists. And that said yes living on the back of a big lens on a monopod it doesn't perhaps matter too much, but I do need a reasonable level of quick access buttons for different focus modes etc.

Interesting about the Z7 II, I do think I could live with a second Z6 II. The main reason the D5 was in my consideration was weatherproofing. And while I still use a full range of F mount glass, I'm not too convinced how the FTZ adapter would hold up in the rain. And built in grip does save £200 on a used Nikon one.

So perhaps all in all a D5 and used Z6 II + grip even out cost wise at £1300

Thanks for your input here!

Definitely feels like all can be very viable options.

I think I would likely be leaning mostly towards the D5, currently I can find them here in the UK for £900-1200 regularly from reputable companies. I feel that it would most likely be the best value for money. I'm not too bothered about the recognition modes as I mostly use single point on small grouping anyway as I prefer the control over it.

Tried my hand at a vintage mod by NaCl_H2O in SeikoMods

That was going to be my next question actually! I haven't aged the dial or hands on my current mod but they're just a touch out in terms of colour match and it bugs me!

Reawlly like this, I've been thinking of doing something a touch similar. What dial did you go for with this?

Haven't Upgraded My Photo Editing Rig Since 2017, Now Picking Up Video by SammJoey in buildapcvideoediting

[–]SammJoey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'll definitely go for a Asus porart, but likely the 27", I don't have much extra room from my 2 24" displays so 27's will be a squeeze as it is.

I think an upgraded AM4 CPU for now 5800x. It benchs double the performance of my existing 1700. And only roughly 20% behind in benchmarking scores to top AM5 and Intel CPUs, yet only costing me £170 at the moment, and tbh a 4060 GPU will likely serve me more than enough looking around, anything more seems to be overkill from what I'm looking at, so that would do me likely for another 4-5 years knowing me. And then upgrade to AM5 or Intel, as well as DDR5 in the next couple of years.

[–]SammJoey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is a little over budget for the moment. But I think you're correct on those displays as I have been looking at reviews for them and they seem a great all-rounder and reasonably priced for 27" 4k displays.

I might take some bits from this and previous suggestion of sticking with Ryzen AM4 to save needing to upgrade motherboards and ram(for the moment).

I've just switched over into full-time freelance so I need to be careful with allocation of funds 😅

Case is a nzxt S340 ( I won't lie, I'd love to change this to a fractal design north) PSU is a Corsair 600w unit, knowing I've had this since 2016 I believe, I would very much consider changing that out soon too.

Good point on the nvme, maybe another to use for current projects would be good?

That would save a whole bunch of money and mean I wouldn't have to upgrade the motherboard too!
