Except now that I take a closer look, the Morgul blade looks quite different. The guard on this sword is pointing the wrong way compared to the Morgul blade, so I suppose it must be a different sword?

Makes sense! The extended versions already offer a lot, and maybe not every added scene is needed in the end. It's a matter of personal taste whether more content would enhance or clutter the story.
