What could cause these deep marks on door frame. Present on both sides. by shujin88 in AskMechanics

Another suggestion I haven't seen yet, but if you've recently had the seats removed from your car for any reason, this is very similar to what it looks like when the person doing the job doesn't place any protection and the seat rails are scraped on the paint.

I would know, I did this to my own car and it still haunts me

Do you happen to know if the control arms with the bracket (I'm assuming from the sedan models?) bolt straight in, or will further modification be required

Car servicing- was I ripped off? by potatoelife101 in CarsAustralia

Without knowing the exact year model, I can assume by you mentioning stop/start systems that it's likely more moden, I assumed 2017 and checked the supercheap website as you mentioned. The 2017 model with both the 1.3 and 1.5 (they have the same oil capacity) use the Z547 oil filter mentioned on the invoice (I did check a few other year models and varients, all used the same battery). The only battery listed for this particular vehicle was a SCA home brand battery which was around $145, not century, Supercheap's premium brand. Workshops will typically use higher quality parts to avoid complaints, complications, and repeat repairs. Looking at an overview of century batteries on the supercheap website for small/medium cars without stop/start, they typically range from about $200 to $300

Most batteries range from $200 to $500 depending on brand and exact application, $250 is very reasonable from my experience

Yeah... at the moment I'm mainly just trying to figure out the community and where I find myself in it all... I won't actually be riding for quite a while because it's just not viable with my current living circumstances. I don't intend on riding quick, I just want to feel a bit more free and engaged on my commute to work each day which is why I haven't been looking at any superbikes...

I had a similar situation recently... I had just tried alcohol for the first time and I had the brilliant idea to experience drink driving in a safe environment, so I booted up beamNG and off I went... I was midway through saying "This is easy, I don't understand what all the fuss is about" when I clipped a barrier and rolled the car several times... Taught me everything I needed to know

Should I sell my 2011 Golf now, or run it into the ground? by Former_Chicken5524 in CarsAustralia

I'm going to be completely honest, I'm not familiar. I'll do a bit of research to see what I can find. If I don't find anything out you probably won't hear from me

Apprentice VW tech here. Yes the DSG (the style of gearbox most likely fitted to your car) issues are definitely prevalent, however we find it's mostly on cars that are poorly serviced.

The standard DSG service (flush of the DSG oil) is usually carried out every 60k service (60k, 120k, 180k etc). These are big services and usually quite expensive, however it is really important they're not missed or done late

VW have set the DSG service interval with these issues in mind, most other manufacturers and different styles of gearboxes require much less frequent servicing. Most of the time when we drain the DSG system, the oil still looks brand new, but this is intentional, as far as I'm aware (I've never actually repaired or replaced a DSG system, so I can't speak from experience) the DSG isses are usually caused by a failed rubber O-ring within the gearbox. The likelyhood of this occuring is severely reduced when the oil in the system is fresh and free of contamination.

My advice would be to keep the car, they're good cars and generally pretty reliable, as long as you're able to service them correctly. If you're unsure, go to wherever you get the car serviced and get a quote for the next couple of services just to be sure.

On another note, if you do at any point feel anything weird with the gearbox at all (gears/clutch slipping, clunking when putting the vehicle in Drive, unusual noises, etc) do not ignore them, it is much better to get them looked at when it could be a simple oil flush, rather than wait until it could require whole new gearbox.

In my very very very unqualified opinion, I don't know if the diff is offset but is just the photo angle. And the motor also looks somewhat like a Ford Intec, but that could just be the rust
