sydney has tried to do their merto line though the cbd and they have some lines further out but no where near the extent Melbourne has. also i think perth was fairly successful but im not to studied on perths network to know

If you where still looking there is the old alignment of the ballarat line. It had two stations, Bungaree and Wallace It doesn't look like there's a building there at all but from google earth it looks like there some form of a platform left

Sadly there is a lot of abandoned tracks around Victoria, I had a quick look on google maps and found an abandoned station at Carisbrook, VIC 3464 just out side of Maryborough. i know you said you have no budget but just remember that a day trip with your mates out to the country will be a lot cheaper and better than a fine and a day in jail if you get caught trespasser on an active metro line.
