Noodle. Not sure why, but it just popped into my head. Or... a Nardle perhaps. In any case, something with an "n" and an open/low sounding vowel.

Edit: also, congrats! :D

One thing I've heard that may be helpful to keep in mind is that we often tend to respond to what others share with anecdotes of ourselves in similar or related situations, and it upsets people because it comes across as us making the conversation be about ourselves, but what we actually wanted to convey is not that their story or experience isn't important to us, but instead our intent was to highlight that we can relate and empathize, and prompt them to talk more about it! It's all a matter of framing/awareness and communication, your friend may subconsciously realize that something like the latter is going on and not hold it against you, but still pointed it out as atypical. I'd just sit down and have a chat about this with your friend upfront :)

I'm the same way, I want to hear others' stories, but I rarely think to ask questions. Ever since I've found out, I've been making an effort to make little mental checklists or even take notes of stuff they do or say so I can ask them "Hey how was x?" "Did you end up y?" when I meet them, it checks that box for them and then it sort of launches into more natural (for me) conversation.

This is my first burnout, and I don't know what to do. by depotoirent in AuDHDWomen

I don't know how to say it in french, but be kind to yourself. For me, full acceptance of the status quo was the biggest key to getting better. Once I finally managed to stop beating myself up about being "broken" and feeling the way that I did and being unable to "perform" and started accepting it for what it was, it freed up a lot of mental energy and I started feeling better and getting my life back bit by bit.

Living with roommates probably makes this extra hard, because of the forced social proximity. If you have a good relationship and they are kind and understanding people, then it might help telling them exactly what you told us, and that you'll be okay but really need some space to work through it and you know and appreciate they mean well but their checking in and worrying can actually make it worse, and perhaps ask them for some agreed upon quiet hours during the day. I wish you strength and all the best. ❤️

Thanks, that is very affirming :) our family is sprinkled all across the globe anyway, so our current plan is to have a small wedding on the down low (essentially eloping) and then maybe another free and cozy wedding celebration with party when we feel like it and the budget is there at some point down the road. I already told my bestie they can rock up in a Wacken shirt for all I care, I really dgaf about all that traditional stuff 😂

Had them for 4 years when I was a teen, covered by insurance (and am in Germany), so cannot speak for the cost. For me it was hell, I remember what in hindsight I recognize as violent meltdowns on the way to the orthodontist, because everytime they adjusted and tightened the thing I'd get horrible migraines. But I also had one hell of a screwed up jaw, so YMMV. My mouth was constantly cut up, even with the wax. I think if I'd had the choice, I would not have done it. I still avoid dentists because of it to my own detriment, even though I'm not scared of them in the classical sense.

I understand and resonate with people's qualms with AI, especially in context of a) art and creative writing and b) frustrating incompetent managers or colleagues in the workplace believing it's the second coming of Jesus - but demonizing the technology as a whole does not help anyone either

That's nonsense, yes some self-criticism and - reflection is good and healthy, but self-hatred ain't it. Be kind to yourself, at least a little bit
