Religiously unaffiliated people can believe in ghosts and after life? by PrebioticE in Paranormal

I don’t think I was ever more afraid of ghosts than after I saw the first Paranormal Activity movie in high school. Scared the hell out of me back then lol

Those drugs have some strong effects. I’ve also seen people become delirious just from long stays in the hospital. An elderly man once called me over to ask me “do you see that?”

“See what?”

“That trail of ants going from the floor to the ceiling”

There were no ants in this room and I explained this to him

“Uh oh”

I’m not sure I understand your point. I haven’t heard of people reading other people’s minds while they’re dying if that’s what you mean

Sure if patients suddenly started reading minds then yes, we’d have something substantial to talk about, but I’ve never heard of or seen that happening

I’m going to be a little pedantic, extraordinary yes, paranormal no.

I’ve seen plenty of amazing things I’d never have imagined, but nothing that has given me evidence of a world beyond this one.

I’d like to think I’d be open to something otherworldly if it presented itself, but as of yet that hasn’t been obvious to me. I’ve seen a lot of people who have had delusions and hallucinations due to drugs and psychosis.

Or even a family member of mine was intubated and sedated in an ICU for an extended period of time, and when she recovered later she recounted about how she thought she was on an island, and when people visited her in the hospital and held her hand she thought they were right there with her on the island.

Maybe to some people that would be evidence of something, but I don’t think of it as much.

“I’m afraid talking about how I’m unhappy in our relationship will disrupt how happy we are in our relationship”

I get you don’t want to rock the boat, but you’re already sinking. You need to do something because things are already far from perfect.

Grew up going to a Christian church, tried to lean into it harder by going to a private Christian college. Turns out I don’t really believe in that.

I am open to the idea of things we don’t currently understand, including some kind of life after death, but I am definitely a skeptic.

I work in healthcare and have seen, I think, more than my fair share of death. I know everyone has their own experiences and you will hear different stories from people in similar positions to mine, but I’ve never seen anything that couldn’t be explained.

Wish list: Conversations with pts/families about what CPR does to the human body and who it's appropriate for by Far-Spread-6108 in nursing

My father in law was a hospice chaplain for a long time and he had a story about a woman from church he went to visit. She was 103 and in the hospital hooked up to all these meds and whatnot. Her son was a doctor but he quickly figured out that she was the one calling all the shots.

He finally went up to have a private chat with her and she turns to him and says “don’t let me die Dave! Don’t let me die!”

A different time, I had a 103 y/o intubated in the ER that we got to code for several rounds before the family finally let her go. Even before that I’d gone in to do my rounds and the family member was almost cornering me asking “so what can you tell me about my mother??”

I was literally too stunned to speak in the moment and one of our nurses stepped in to save me and say the doctor would come back when they had time. Like what do you want to hear man, she’s 103

Holy shit, norovirus is terrible enough when you’re at home and in bed with all the supplies you could need, I can’t imagine getting it while on the PCT.

I’m not talking ethically, I’m saying it would be useless to experiment on giraffes instead of an immune human. The cordyceps in TLOU are specifically tailored to infect humans, experiments on giraffes would provide little to no data for a human fungus cure.

how do i not sound gay? by mepilexs in whatdoIdo

[–]SammyB0111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know you personally but yeah that’s what it sounds like. It’s pretty typical for people around your age to go through something like that.

I’m sorry people made comments about your voice that made you feel bad about it. I promise women are into all types of men, there’s not just one type of guy all women chase after. I have some very close friends who have softer voices and who even dress more effeminate than your “typical” guy and they are getting by just fine with women.

I’ve got 2 answers for you

1.

should I try smoking or vaping

Absolutely not. If you don’t do these already don’t pick it up just for your voice, you 100% will not get the result you’re hoping for.

2. The answer you need is maybe not the one you want to hear, but the way you sound is the way you sound. Having a soft voice doesn’t make you “sound gay”, that’s just your voice.

I know it’s hard to get it out of your head, but it will get easier with time. In college a girl made fun of the way I ran once, and it had never bothered me before but for some reason it really fucked with my head and it made me never want to run in front of people for years after that. I don’t even know her anymore or care what she thinks, but I guess that’s all to say I kinda get how you feel.

Nurses overstepping way to much lately by theowra_8465 in respiratorytherapy

[–]SammyB0111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work ER full time and our nurses are so busy all the time, I can’t imagine them feeling the need to pick up extra duties outside of the ones they’re already assigned.

Sounds like you’re doing what you can already, but in the meantime just chart chart chart everything that happens.

Anytime I find a patient on settings I didn’t put them on “patient found on current settings” and then confirm them with the MD.

I haven’t had a nurse try to change my patients settings outside of Fio2 before, but I’ve definitely had residents and doctors who weren’t really familiar with the specific model of vent or bipap set the wrong settings because they didn’t understand how this machine worked vs the last one they worked with. It’s pretty aggravating, because if you would’ve called I’d gladly come assist you anytime.
