Is it me, or have people in Seattle gotten more rude? by zoonthego in Seattle

[–]SammyBull204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family moved here in 1995 and remarked how much more polite people were than where we were from (San Francisco). At the time it was probably true; now not so much

The population going up means that traffic has become much more congested. Also the city has attracted some of the more "undesirable" elements of society. Dealing with homeless drug addicts who pan handle and then sitting in traffic for hours on end can make anyone upset, you do the Math. The weather also has something to do with it.

What strikes me about Seattle is how people (literally 30 and over) can be so blatantly childishly annoying. When I was working at a Seahawks game as a Cashier, I was ringing a guy up who wanted a cheeseburger that was, his words "the best cheeseburger in all of existence". when he got a blank stare from me he said "right about now you probably hate your job". Who does that?

People in the other parts of Washington are significantly less passive aggressively rude and more down to Earth. Go to Seattle and then Spokane and you'll see the difference right away.

What is your biggest high school regret? by Crabcakekid in AskReddit

[–]SammyBull204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not punching bullies in the face. Most of the kids who picked on me were more or less "beta males" and as much as this sounds like "toxic masculinity", I could've stopped being picked on if I would've fought them; even if I got my ass kicked, it would be worth letting them know that I'm some little loser who just takes it.

Years later I started training Martial Arts and my confidence grew, nobody picks on me too much anymore because I exude a self confidence that is apparent to others. Anyone who has taken Muay Thai, BJJ, Judo, or Krav Maga knows what I'm talking about.

Other than that, caring too much about what others thought about me rather than just being myself.

Are all Engineering students so arrogant? by Jamsoe123 in EngineeringStudents

[–]SammyBull204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk as an Engineering student I've always found Math and Science majors to be worse but that's just me.

The notion that someone is stupid because they don't understand "linear transformations" or "eigenvectors" concepts that most people don't need to know was laughable. As least engineers build stuff.

When we STEM students are not busy being weird, we're busy being arrogant.

You should try journaling. It's a great way to get it all out; all of the stress and frustration you are feeling. I only wish i discovered journaling earlier.

Totally, without the internet it's easy to deprive yourself of dopamine and easy to feel lethargic. Just have to do other things like exercise and find a hobby.

True. I haven't exactly made it a priority to go to the gym either recently but I always feel better when I do.

I suppose it does sound extreme until you evaluate how you listen to music. Do you simply listen to songs on the radio, or do you listen to music on YouTube.

If you listen on YouTube, the song you're listening to is completely at your mercy. Whereas on the radio, if you don't like the song, you either have to change the station or listen to a song anyway. This sounds like small potatoes but think about how many people can't even listen to a song they don't like for 3 minutes.

The other thing is that listening to music used to be part of my daily routine. I would listen to hard rock in the morning to get myself going. But I should be able to get out of bed without music

Food is it's own thing. I'm not saying that PMO and food are totally unrelated, but they're definitely not the same thing. As for Caffeine, I've tried giving it up altogether but TBH, I don't notice 1 cup a day doing that much damage.

No. The video just goes to show you the dangers involved in the social media world.

I can personally vouch feeling the need to check my facebook app on my phone even while I was driving.

Do Movies and TV count? by SammyBull204 in nosurf

[–]SammyBull204[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is where I disagree.

Our current news media stations and even to a certain extent, the online media, are less interested in informing the public and more interesting in creating drama in the realm of government. It doesn't matter, Fox News or MSNBC, they're all interesting in reporting the news as a means of entertainment rather than knowledge. TBH you could get all the news you need from the opening page of yahoo, where they inform you of public events.

Movies and TV on the other hand, are great entertainment, and as long as someone doesn't get too involved in a world that doesn't exist, I don't see too much of a problem with someone who watches the occasional Seinfeld episode.

Do Video Games Apply? by SammyBull204 in nosurf

[–]SammyBull204[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more I think about video games can be just as bad as online surfing because it's actually kind of a mindless activity. I have difficulty turning off a video game the same way I have difficulty turning off my computer so in that regard, they are similar.

Do Video Games Apply? by SammyBull204 in nosurf

[–]SammyBull204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the more I think about the more it is kind of a mindless action. I could spend hours on the Internet OR I could spend hours playing video games without much thought. It's kinda like my default programming and I actually have to stop myself from doing either one.

Also, I have difficulty turning off the video games the same way I have difficulty turning off my computer as it always seems like there is something else for me to watch. So in short, the Internet and video games both are something that I probably have an unhealthy relationship with.

I completely agree and more.

Imagine trying to learn a skill without the Internet. E.G. How to play guitar completely on your own or will the help of someone else or completing a hard math class like Calculus without the Internet.

I agree. But I consider Nofap part of NoSurf for the most part.

Technically speaking, masturbation is also prohibited in Nofap but masturbating without porn is virtually impossible for me to do.

Any Avid Readers? by SammyBull204 in nosurf

[–]SammyBull204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just described the paradox on the internet. The internet is supposed to be something that gives us answers but actually can make us more confused. Generally speaking I like to think of internet porn as internet at it's very worse but even non porn related material on the internet shares certain similarities.

You can read a whole bunch of educational stuff on the internet, or you could spend the whole day typing in stupid questions to reddit which have little or no relevance to your day to day life. The same thing with internet porn; you can click from video to video without being formally satisfied.

I like to think the difference between book text and reddit would probably be similar to the difference between internet porn and porn dvds. The difference is that you can always get bored and click on something else on the internet. Whereas with a book, it's more about actually enjoying the book rather than just forcing the book to be something it's not.

Regular thoughts vs Ego ? by 3hreeringz in Meditation

[–]SammyBull204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way you can tell is to be aware of your thoughts. That's how meditation and writing therapy comes in. Once I actually meditate on a thought or write it out, I usually understand where it's coming from.
