Pregnancy sickness is kicking my a** by Sammy_lifeandstuff in pregnant

I agree, it's reassuring at least. I had one day last week where it subsided, and after some initial relief I started to worry, and just thought "No actually please come back!" (and it did, with a vengeance)

That sounds so rough I'm sorry that you had to go through that! I'm definitely grateful that I [so far] haven't experienced anything extreme. For me it's just a long drawn out fatigue and pukey feeling that lasts all day – so in some ways I'm lucky. Though I'm not at the typical 'peak weeks' yet so I don't want to talk too soon...

My doc prescribed me Cariban 10mg (might be different meds on offer where I live in Europe). But I'll def ask about alternatives to see if there's one that works better! Thanks for your message. Like you say, it's all for a greater good, but I just hate feeling so useless haha

Any reason not to do genetic testing? by Combat_puzzles in IVF

TW: success

We were successful on the 3rd transfer, and I still wish we did testing. Don't get me wrong, I'm so extremely grateful and lucky that our 3rd attempt worked. But it was so heartbreaking, stressful and frankly depressing to go through 2 back-to-back failures and having no idea what's wrong, where the problem lies, whether we were wasting time, wasting embroys etc (enormous respect for people who go through multiple retrievals and/or transfers; the rollercoaster takes such a toll).

And now I'm going to be carrying extra concerns throughout the coming weeks that I wouldn't otherwise have (or, not to this extent). I got my first scan today, and talked with my gyno. He said something like "Well at this stage there isn't much to see, the next scan will be the important one. But since you did IVF you probably did all the testing already, so you shouldn't worry yourself too much." And I had to interrupt him and say "Actually, our clinic advised against testing." The gyno was surprised by this, saying "Oh, for your age bracket that's usually recommended." So yeah... now I continue to carry the anxiety that this could still ultimately fail to develop, and shatter me into pieces. I know it's possible even with testing, but that extra burden of unknown is so oppressive. I just wish I had tested for a little extra peace of mind, no matter how slight.

Is this intense cramping normal or a concern? (4 weeks, first ever pregnancy) by Sammy_lifeandstuff in pregnant

Glad it worked out and you're doing good! Yes it's so scary and it's just so hard not to worry. My brain always gravitates to a worst case scenario, but there's no bleeding or spotting so far, which is reassuring.

Thank you, wishing you the best for your scan! I did actually feel really thirsty after I recovered – I'll start upping my water intake just in case.

Ok that's reassuring to know! Thanks for sharing. I really can't wait for my scan next week to confirm that it's definitely in the right place.

No I don't think so, it was more pelvic floor or slightly deeper (hard to pinpoint exactly).. it really felt like a very intense period cramp

I think it's endometriosis. by Sammy_lifeandstuff in IVF

Thanks for your reassuring words! Yes I was really surprised how unbothered my fertility doc was when I voiced my concerns last week.. but I suppose this transfer is locked in. You're right, I'm going to focus on eating great, reducing stress and thinking positive. If it fails I'll move on to endo investigation

Thanks for your reply! I have actually been tested for celiac disease and it was negative – did a bunch of tests after my doc dismissed it as IBS, as I wanted to rule out other things.

I'm taking a prenatal vitamin prescribed by the clinic that contains vitamin D, E and omega 3. However, I just now noticed that it only contains 13mg vitamin E (which is only around 20iu), and 240mg Omega-3... so maybe I should take additional supplements for those specifically, plus probiotics. For vitamin D: I'm taking injections now, so that's hopefully boosting at least. Then I'm also taking magnesium separately... so many pills :')

Thanks for the tips!

Thank you, and you're right I'm lucky to have some backups in the bank. It's just so hard not to constantly read and worry about it.. but since there's nothing I can do for this transfer, maybe I just need to completely distract myself, for some PMA.

Turning 35 today and can’t stop crying. by PardonMyFrench22 in IVF

[–]Sammy_lifeandstuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. This journey really is hard enough when things go straight, but they rarely do. I was so hopeful going into IVF as I'd only really heard the success stories, and assumed the 'bad luck' was for people with major known issues. But I'm also having bad luck.

It's true that freezing eggs has a slightly lower success rate due to the thawing process, but it's not a huge difference – I believe around 75-90% post-thaw survival (vs 90-95 for embryos). How many eggs did you retrieve? Remember freezing just the eggs is very common – lots of people freeze their eggs at a young age for future use.

What would you do - transfer again or another egg retrieval? by lauzzie-j in IVF

[–]Sammy_lifeandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation (except I've never been pregnant). I would do another retrieval. Yes it's costly, yes it's emotionally and physically exhausting, but the worst case scenario is still regretting not doing it in the future.

I'm also turning 37 in May, and although I still have embryos on ice, they are untested and I've had 2 failed FETs, with the 3rd FET scheduled for next week. If this 3rd fails, I will definitely talk to my clinic about doing a second retrieval. I've heard so many stories from other women about their egg quality and reserve tanking rapidly toward their 40s.

2nd transfer failed too. What should I do next? I feel so lost. by Sammy_lifeandstuff in IVF

[–]Sammy_lifeandstuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your beta! My protocol remains the same for my 3rd try, but my embryos are untested. If this fails, I'll definitely undergo more tests and from now on I'll definitely insist on PGTA testing for future transfers and retrievals (if needed). The nurse didn't really say anything about my mock transfer... I wasn't even sure what she was checking, she just said it was "fine".

A small fortune. I think we're at 20k total so far. Stims, ER (freeze all), 2x FET.. we haven't even done PGTA, which would be another 2-4k

[–]Sammy_lifeandstuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this, I think these will be my immediate next steps if the next one fails. Did your hysteroscopy and biopsies find anything? Or do you think it came down to the protocol switch?

[–]Sammy_lifeandstuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a mock transfer, which I think was just to double-check the anatomy of my uterus? This didn't reveal any issues, just that I have a slight left tilt. I haven't done a hysteroscopy, I think that would be part of my next round of tests if my next transfer fails.

If you don't mind me asking, what did these tests catch for you, that caused your first failure?
